Cool DUNE Remake version AGA

https://www.amigafrance.com/forums/t...e-version-aga/

Pretty nice graphics (slightly "AI-inspired" I'd say, which is not a bad thing) for a potential AGA version.

Perhaps JOTD & StingRay could help with the project since they worked on the WHDLoad slave?

There are still some really good coders, I hope this will be put together in the near future.

It's certainly a very "do-able" project. Even just using the PC assets over the Amiga versions would be an upgrade. (And it would be much easier to legalise if all you needed was the PC disks / disc to install)

I wish him well with his ideas.

OpenDUNE has an AGA port, so you can do exactly that already.

As for the opening post: while the graphics he did are very nice, this is not the way *I* would like to play the game. The issue with most games that get such an optical upgrade is that the spirit of the original is lost. It's just not looking right anymore, especially since unnecessary changes to the characters and backgounds were made - like Paul's father now looking as young as he could actually be his brother.

And Opendune takes something that runs on the A500, and makes require an 060.

I wouldn't use word "runs" for Dune 2 on A500.

I read they found a coder 'on the socials' (would have to search where). Looks interesting for sure

Itisn't really an AGA version of the original Dune but a reinterpretation. There is apparently more characters, differents tactical fights more place to explore etc...

Great project.

absolutely hate all this AI hogwash, get a real artist to work in there because basically there is no new Dune here just someone made a few AI screenshots and thats it would be very sad that all graphics were just AI generated nonsense I don't come to the Amiga for this kind of computer generated crap I have plenty of modern computers where that garbage can be seen

Barjack has recruited 2 amiga coders already. I chatted with him on discord last night.

He used AI, but he is a very talented graphist. I had the pleasure to see some pictures, and tested them on my A1200, the rendering is awesome.

PS : the game will use 2 palettes of 256 colors (512 total), 256 for the main screen and 256 for the HUD.

Regarding the 'AI' talk, people should also consider that even if AI is used as a helper, the fact that an actual GFX artist is at the helm of this (which by the looks of it seems to absolutely know what he's doing) can really make the difference. The amount of work needed to keep the style and coloration consistent, convert, cleanup and retouch the assets, create UIs and in-game stuff (AI cannot make those), sort out palettes etc. would still require massive amount of manual work. The same goes for animation or recomposing stuff. All these need to be done manually and a lot of it from scratch.

I personally don't care where the source assets came from and whether AI is used (and to what extend). Parts of this could have been f.e. from a different Dune version for PCs for all I care. This seems to be a massively ambitious project and the result looks great!
