No way is Green Beret better than the arcade. Way too difficult on the C64.
I agree that Moon Patrol is a fantastic game. Choplifter is pretty impressive for a 1982 release, as is Wizard of Wor (especially with a Magic Voice unit). |

Regarding sound, I'd say everything by Paul Norman, so:

Good find, that is pretty snazzy!
Wayout was an early C64 game that really wowed me when I later discovered. At the time when most of the maze games only allowed 90 degree turns, Wayout incorporates a free to roam 3D maze not completely unlike Wolfenstein. There's also some other nice technical things here in the gradient background, wind physics and particles (jump to 1:47) [ Show youtube player ] |

The Way of the Exploding Fist.
1985, felt like a breakthrough title! Was the full package, awesome graphics, sampled sound, brill music, great gameplay! Apart from the cheap leg sweep move, I prefer fist to IK, fist felt more brutal and the slower pace was more strategic! |

I second this. It looked very good when it came out and you can safely say that it has aged quite well. Personally I'd add Summer Games and Winter Games to the list. |

The Great America Cross Country Road Race, (Activision 1985.) Really enjoyed playing this video game, specially when experiencing the night sections. Just awesome playability.

Looks like a good fun, but to me Pitstop II (1984) seems more technically advanced - unless there's something I've missed in the gameplay video?

(Check example below.) Can still remember hours of game play disappearing like seconds with this game! Simply irreplaceable times from back when computer games were superlative! |

I sometimes wonder, in a wild dream, similar to the N64 with Super Mario 64, if a game like Sam's Journey was a C64 launch title back then, imagine the shockwave it would have caused!

1988 is hardly an early release.
