F1Gp-ED with free license key
Wanted to buy a reg.key for F1Gp-ed but the paying system was down.
The developer was very kind to make a free version available. You can download it at his site: http://www.amigaf1.co.uk/F1GP-Ed/ Enjoy! |

That is great, I remember using the demo version from a subscriber disk or similar many years ago. Going to give this a roll again.

Brings back some memories since I "enhanced" (ahem :P) the shareware version back in 1998.

Nice moments when I helped Oliver to debug it for 060 with my a500T/060.

Cool stuff. Thank you Oliver. Will try it out on my miggy.
BTW WarpDatatypes were done by Oliver Roberts too, not sure about Button Menu. |

Can't believe people still remember ButtonMenu - I barely do . Yes, it was made by me too - my first attempt at a "serious" Amiga application, not long after F1GP-Ed first surfaced. Happy days. StingRay, do you mean that you owe me a small fortune of £6 .
BTW, it was a pleasant surprise to be confronted by a F1GP screenshot as one of the image verification options when signing up to this site . |

Did Microprose / Geoff Crammond ever contact you about F1GP-Ed? |

(Un)fortunately not. I did contact Microprose myself before releasing F1GP-Ed to obtain their permission since I was unsure of the legalities at the time. They did reply, and unsurprisingly they didn't give their permission, but then again they didn't flat out tell me not to release it so I went ahead with the plan. I did try to contact Geoff via Microprose, but nothing ever came of it. And I never heard anything out of Microprose after that, although IIRC it was around the time that Microprose got bought out, sold, etc, etc.

Many thanks for this. I had the same problem, couldn't pay online and was desperate to go back to using F1GP updated. Now I can relive my childhood again....lol.
By the way, did anyone ever do any track updates for F1GP or was it just not possible? |

It was something that was being worked on - I even wrote an app to open and display the .trk files in overhead 2D form. Some good progress was made and some modified/new tracks were made, both on PC and Amiga since the file structure was the same (indeed, GP2 files were pretty similar to F1GP too). The biggest problem that was never resolved was the ideal line - we never did work out exactly how this was encoded, and this was intrinsically linked to the AI. The end result was that the CPU cars literally couldn't stay on the circuit. I lost interest in hacking F1GP during this time .

Hey Futaura I wanna add a personal thanks for F1GP-Ed, it made a great game totally awesome (I remember using some split time thing which added sector times on the dash board too). I still have the original paid for disk with key that you mailed to me all those years back. The funniest thing is I loaded up Aminet for the first time in almost a decade last night, and the first file I saw was F1GP-Ed with free key... for a minute I thought it was still being developed!
Does anyone update car data etc like in the old days still? (I couldnt find anything past 2002 season). |

Not AFAIK. 2002 was the last season that I made a datafile for.
SplitTime was cool too, although I can't take the credit for coding that one. I dread to think how many laps I drove of each circuit to beat the lap records, but SplitTime was a great help . |

Tx Futaura, last night I spent god knows how long playing F1GP with the update 2002 data......what a difference. As for the track issue, shame you never got round to finishing it, but what you´ve done anyway is PDG. As for SplitTime, I´ve never tried it, but I do use the HUD to see the wherabouts of the other cars......helps me keep an eye on that damn Schumacher....lol!

This sounded so good I had to download it but I did so without thinking things through - I am using the WHDload version of F1GP at the moment so I assume this won't editor won't work with that. Is my only hope to find (a brain) cracked ADFs of the game and run the HD Install (assuming there is one) and then use this Editor?

The whdload version does support an edited exe.
