The fact is that 85% of us are using IE.
here is one part of the abime.net stats for the month of september 2k1... (and more than 1000 pple / days visit us) Code:
Internet Explorer 86.2 % Other 8.8 % Netscape 4.0 % Opera 0.9 % and force people to use Netscape in order they could use non-activeX plugin is not one solution. Microsoft have the monopol and I hate that, they are doing what they want with us, another exemple: don't you know that WindowsXP won't support Java ? |

Well, I am with S4murai on this...minority that we are (which any Amiga user should be accustomed to). As a long-time Amiga user, I have been dealing with this crap from the PC world from day one. I never could understand why the masses stuck by the inferior model and to this day, I still don't understand it. A decade ago, I was scoffed at for using the Amiga instead of 'joining the pack' and becoming an 'IBM user'. A decade later, the 'masses' all swear by IE despite it being a poorer product and having to deal with the shit Microsoft put you through. But like in the early 90's, users will make excuses and adjust their computing lifestyle to whatever Microsoft tells them before they will break their chains with M$ (always stick by the most popular if you want to fit in, oh yes!)
Ironically, last night I began my IE Shit List of reasons why it is inferior to Netscape. I doubt it will ever get posted on this forum since people get so emotionally offended by hearing what I have to say. And on the same plane as PC users used to get when I'd go on BBS's and layout the advantages of the Amiga over the 486. It blew my mind back then that anyone could defend a 486 (the top of the line PC model at the time) over the top of the line A3000 (back then). And I am not even using a current version of Netscape, yet it still kicks IE's dick in the dirt. And I use both browsers every single day (except my two days off each week), which I daresay none of the 86.2% IE users on here can claim. Yes, the mod jukebox will have to go away, but this is typical of what to expect when you deal with supporting the M$ global model. It's one of the reasons I don't use IE, because by them dominating the browser market, they have the right to do this. M$ have chosen to be irresponsible with power so many times that I wouldn't use IE even if it did perform better than its competition. One cannot leave ethics out of the equation. If you do, you get exactly what is happening now. Abuse of power. Apologies for getting on my high horse here, but at least I didn't post my IE Shit List... |

NO the mod jukebox must NOT GO AWAY! . Why do we have to bend over to Microsoft and let this cool feature be removed just because they are fuckwits?
I hate the Microsoft/Intel mindfuck. |

Yeah, well, I just Downloaded Opera for my PC (IE on my Mac is really super, to be honest). Anyway, although it claims to be fast, this Opera, it is not, and definitely feels beta-like. But When I upgrade to XP next month, I'll say BYE BYE IE and anything else that is good will be installed. As youse know, IE is removeable from XP. Oh yeah, since M$ hates Sun, you have to download Java for XP, another M$ mindfuck

Wait a moment!
What if the altercations made by Micro$oft to IE were decided through a public voting poll? Maybe there were (insane) people out there who demanded that plugins be removed and other pointless shit. If this is true, then they are the biggest mindfucks around.
My guess as to why IE is extremely popular is probably because Micro$oft heavily advertised their products (and Windows in general) around the world whereas Netscape, Opera, Mozilla and countless other web browsers did not do any promotion. This most likely means that people will only consider touching anything in life if it's heavily hyped. Fuckwits. |

S4amurai, I just think I will try opera and mozilla on Xp..Opera might be better or work better on it. i was at my buddy's house Sunday, and he has Xp..it really looks, feels and works better than any M$ OS ever. Ok..thats not saying much
What about NeoPlanet..i know it piggybacks on IE's mozilla engine...did you try it? Is it able to do things IE can't\won't?? |

Well, the download manager on NeoPlanet is very nice indeed, something M$ misses out on...though on my iBook, the Mac version of IE has had a nifty download manager for YEARS.

I'm no programmer, so most this Active X & Java stuff is well out my depth to talk about, but I did have one thought...
With all this debate over different browser's for the forthcoming XP-do you honestly expect all these different ones' are going to necessarily be improved on XP?? After all, just because MS might've been forced to allow other browser's onto the OS, I wouldn't think they will do anyone any of them any favours? After all if MS were content to just sit on their laurels why did they enter gaming console market with the X-box? I'm sure the thought that Sony would be making million's of sales with a potential broadband accessing multimedia machine with a NON-MS operating system never crossed their minds!! |

This is true. It's always been a part of M$ strategy to have the competitor's product perform poorly. If it doesn't, their stronghold on the OS practically guarantees their capability to make that a reality. During the old Netscape vs IE wars when the two were neck to neck, ex-employees of M$ claimed certain procedures were taken to make certain products functioned poorly under the OS. It was dismissed since this revealed info broke non-disclosure agreements signed by the ex-employee. And even knowing this, nobody really seemed to much give a shit that their 'preference' of the competing M$ brand was via sabotage of the competition. I just cannot reward that mentality with my support...

OK, I will share another brilliant concept from the mind$et of the upper echelon...
Microsoft looks at new ideas, they don't evaluate whether the idea will move the industry forward, they ask, "how will it help us sell more copies of Windows?" --Bill Gates in The Seattle Weekly, April 30, 1998 Removed: Gates Dollar Last edited by Ian; 01 December 2001 at 00:20. |

Ofcourse they are
I noticed only recently that when entering an incorrect URL, I'm immediately transferred to the MSN search pages, with some lame statement that the URL I was looking for was unavailable, and whether I'd like to try to find what I was looking for through their search-engine.
"Oops. Google's getting too large a market-share, let's steal the dumb users away from them". I hate their business practices. :disgusted Thoroughly. |

Yeah, I've been noticing that lately too (in IE at work). Every day I use that program, I am amazed at what crap it is. Have you seen the text on BTTR? It looks all messed up. Like the fonts are rescaled or something....

I think you can disable that shit if you tell IE not to autosearch when it fails. I have disabled it at work.
