Katakis

I suspect there was either a budget release, or "Katakis" was also part of a different compilation.
Neither SPS releases nor any cracked disk contains additional intro:

According the info on WT page, the shown screenshot is rather from the first version of "Katakis", but the assertion remains, because this text(Year info) from bootblock of an ADF.

Is it maybe the first UK release, before they were forced (by Activision) to re-release it as Denaris?

Mmh, but the different loading tune isn't a fake, right? Or is it simply the German v1.0 version?

I think this is an earlier release. CFou! made the install and maybe could tell in which way the code looks different.
That SPS misses many releases is known...

Ok, I can give some more info on this.

This is no fake and we're searching for an original of this game for years. We have good dumps of this version, but unfortunately, disk 2 is always modified because the game allows highscores to be saved. I am right now in contact with someone actually dumping it again for us. Hopefuly, disk 2 is unmodified this time.

Katakis was, as we all know, a very close clone of R-Type. It was so close that Activision who owned the home computer conversion rights approached Rainbow Arts / Factor 5 to have Katakis reworked. This version, known to many as Katakis only, is called Katakis 1.1 (you can check this by inserting the disk - write protected - when Workbench is running; v1.0 will give a bad disk error, v1.1 will show its name with 1.1 in it), lateron also rereleased as Denaris.

This later version is very different from the first version (the enemies on the first level are green instead of the grey in Katakis/Denaris 1.1) released, e.g. several levels swapped around, graphics changed, enemies changed. It's like playing different games actually.

Even more funny: Activision did in fact hire Factor 5 to do the official R-Type conversion for the Amiga.

In fact this was part of the deal, to allow Rainbow Arts to publish Denaris as a re-release then.

Could be. Was a long time ago... Thomas Lopatic later did the Giana Sisters Amiga conversion of Hülsbeck's C64 tune.

...let's cross fingers we get a good dump of v1.0, even Factor 5 seems not seem to have any data left...

Obviously, that one has the highscores changed, too.
