Can someone refresh my memory, did the actual hosting disappear (and thus the contents), or did they just lose the domain name?

It started with the loss of the domain name, after that hippy2k just seemed to disappear.
I bet the whole site is still on the university server but unreachable by normal means. It would be great if someone could revive the site, although it would have to be renamed because the domain name was sold on. |

Does anyone happen to know what IP the site used to be on? Technically you can work around the domain not working by forcing local DNS resolution. That may be a way to pull a copy of the site (that's assuming the actual site is still live on the hosting space).
EDIT: Got it, going to try a few things. EDIT 2: The IP it was hosted on belonged to the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, unfortunately that IP, whilst still live, no-longer has any web-server running on it, so I doubt the site is actually still there. No, the site has been gone for a while. It was accessible for a time by using the ip address but one day it was just gone.
Wouldn't surprise me if the files were still there though, if someone wanted to take over the site it may be worth contacting the university and asking. |

I'm sad BTTR is gone, it was a stalwart of the early Internet Amiga scene and a pioneer of 100% legal downloads and license acquiring.
Thank you hippy2k and Bobic for keeping it up all those years it lasted, but if there's any way we can keep it archived for the future, let us know. Perhaps it could be hosted at EAB? (RCK?) . Even if not maintained anymore, the sheer amount of stuff in it is worth having around. |

I have a handful of friends who live in Oslo and could possibly go and ask the university directly about it. I will contact them this week end.
Ping me on Sunday if I have given no news then. (A few of them were students there, which should help.) |

Actually there is one. It may not be 100% complete but i downloaded nearly everything back in the days when the site was working. So most of the files are actually still lying around on my HDD, i didn't save the HTTP stuff. If there is any interest i could upload files.

It's such a shame, BTTR was fantastic, I got a few things from there years and years ago now (obviously), and stupidly thought it would always be there...

Can the people behind bttr zip the whole BTTR.ORG site in one big file to download?

Well that's the problem, no-one has access to it.
