Question Networking Help

Hi

I have a PCMCIA Network card for the Amiga - supplied by Keropi in a swap deal a while back. I'd now like to try to get it working.

The Adapter is Card is a 3Com 10Base T/Coax

And has been previously used in an A1200....

I've downloaded and installed the 3Com 3C589.device driver from http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=26169

But I have no clue as to how to set it up. OS is currently 3.5 as I cant get 3.9 to boingbag properly.

Reason for all of this is I keep breaking pins on my USB CF adapter lol so I'd like to be able to share stuff PC/miggy.

If more software is required (and I suspect so) then either someone will have to (kindly) make me up some floppies, or I will have to hunt for yet another CF adapter........

Andrew

You need a tcp/ip stack. Miami, AmiTCP.. Search the forums for tutorials if you don't know anything about tcp/ip.

Apparently OS 3.5 comes with a time-limited demo version of Miami, which whilst not the greatest may do to get me started.

Wow! Thanks, hit! That looks like a useful guide.

I've been following this thread with interest, as I recently acquired a 3Com 3CCE589EC PCMCIA 10 Mbps LAN PC Card adapter.

Thanks hit... I was hoping not to have to go the whole hog and install samba as it loooks painful to set up. HOWEVER I'll give it a bash...

If you only want to use shared folders from another computer , give smbfs a try. IMHO it's easier and less of a resource hog than Samba.

One thing I found out with smbfs and my NAS box, it didn't work on shares without a password
