GVP Memory Question

Just how 'special' is GVP memory? Is there any memory compatible or did they scramble the pin out?

Currently I'm stuffing old gym socks into my mouth That'll keep me from asking questions before doing my homework (google search). Seems GVP had fun and made up a standard of their own. Neat way of locking people in.

Yes, GVP stuffs you nicely. GVP memory costs a damned LOT, and its a shame, because they make such NICE accelerators

Memory for GVP acelerators uses to cost 3 or 4 times as much as standard memory

Ive seen on aminet some txt, that was about the crack making 72-pin SIMM 'compatible' with the 64-pin GVP 'standard'. So check the aminet up, if you want Im sure it is there...

Btw, I had been using GVP Combo 030/50 with my A2000. Some weeks ago I sold it and bought Blizzard2040 which accepts standard PS/2 (72-pin) SIMMs up to 128 MB

Heh, Btw2 GVP made also cards that supported not only their own 'standard' SIMMs. For example TekMagic 2040 & 2060 turbos, which have four 72 pin SIMM sockets and four 64 pin GVP SIMM sockets for 'backward' hehe compatibility

@Pete, the best price for new GVP memory I've seen is Software Hut in PA. Not far from you in fact, due south I believe

I think the last price was $29.95 (US) for the 4MB GVP SIMM's and quite a bit more for the 16MB GVP SIMM's!!! It depends on the GVP device you have as to wether it accepts one or the other size.

Thanks for the url jmmijo.... and as wel Lukas007. Ya never know... maybe I'll try that hack (looking into my box of electronic bits here). If I get the need bad enough maybe I'll get some from Softhut.

Akira: I guess GVP took lessons from old IBM (ala PS/2 (or Piece of Sh*t 2)). Lock 'em whenever you can. They do make some nice stuff though...
