hello people.

hi guy's,

I've just signed up after buying an a500. i never had one as a kid i was always a md/snes kid. but i remember playing moonstone at a mates house and always wanted one so took the plunge.

i've got a couple of n00b questions if you don't mind answering.

i only want the amiga for games so is it worth getting an a1200? or will the 500 play most things i want?

also is there a way of putting roms onto floppy disks? if so would it play ok on my 500?

thanks,rich.

Hello and welcome

Good to hear you got an A500 you could just enjoy it for awhile with lots of games to play then later on get the A1200 add a hard drive fill it with game. The trouble is that its easy to start buying everything you come across for sale So I would just have sum fun for a bit and get to know your A500

All the best

Don

I'm guessing you mean games? You can use amiga explorer http://www.amigaforever.com/ae/
to copy ADF disk images from your PC to a floppy in your A500 with a null-modem serial cable. Its a slow process and sometimes you have to start over when you get errors but it gets the job done.
If, like me, you don't have a serial port you can use a USB-serial adapter.

Hope this helps

I would just like to clarify something here.

Once Amiga Explorer is set up correctly, errors when writing ADF images on your PC back to floppies in your Amiga will invariably be due to failing floppy disks.

Amiga Explorer is very reliable, if slow, software provided dependable floppy disks are used.

Sorry, didn't mean to come across like I was blaming Amiga Explorer for the errors. I actually point the finger at the combination of a cheap usb-serial adaptor and my often misbehaving windows 7 setup for the occasional com port errors. If only they'd make a linux version.... its the only reason I keep my windows partition!
