A500 power LED turns off....

Hi guys... i need a bit of help deciding if my A500 LED is ok or not?

My old A500 had a red power LED and KS 1.2 and whenever i booted a game the LED would turn off completely and i know this is an indication of the audio filter being enabled/disabled.

I now have recently acquired another A500 that has a green power LED and KS 1.3 and it does the same.... the power led will turn off completely when booting up a game that enables/disables the audio filter.

As far as i know it was the early A500 (red LED) that did this and the later ones (green LED) would dim the power LED instead of turning it off.... My question is: Were there early A500 models using the green power LED that still turned off instead of dimming it (before Commodore changed it)

The Green LED equipped A500's do dim the Power LED as well due to the audio filter

They shouldn't extinguish completely though

Thats what i thought! I know the red LED's turn off on early A500's and i know the A500's with the green LED are supposed to be dimmed when the audio filter is being used or not used?

I have been trying to look it up and i have seen that some people say some of the early green LED models would do the same but i am not too sure if this is correct?

I'm not sure if this page is 100% accurate but i am guessing even some of the green poer LED A500's had the LED completely turn off when the audio filter is enabled/disabled, here is the link:

http://www.amiga-hardware.com/showhardware.cgi?HARDID=8

It mentions the audio filter at the bottom of the page.

Just to throw you off track, I have a 500 which has a red power LED and it just dims when the audio filter is in use.

How many production plants were there back then I wonder? Commodore are well known for using old stock parts anyway... so this is probably why.

Thats strange too.... maybe you had a newer revision but they were using up the rest of the old red led's??
My old A500 red led turned off when running games that use the audio filter... and so does my A500 with the green power led a friend of mine has an A500+ with green led and that dims when the audio filter is being enabled/disabled.....

Does anyone here have a standard A500 with a green power led that turns completely off when games are being played?

It is down to the motherboard revision. Rev 3 and Rev 5 turn the power led off, Rev 6 and above dim the power led.

There are Rev 6s with both red and green LED from the factory. Someone could have swapped a green led keyboard into a Rev 5.

Don't read too much into the power led colours.

That all makes sense, cheers My old A500 with KS 1.2 was using a rev 3 board.....I heard bad things about this revision but i never had any major problems until it died!

I am not sure what revision my current A500 is and i don't really want to open it as the seal is intact and it's in very nice original condition I am guessing it is a later rev 5 as it is a green led version and i think it's safe to say the keyboard has never been changed since the case has never been opened.

So it is only rev 3 and 5 that turn the power led completely off when the audio filter is disabled/enabled? And i would assume that the old rev 3 A500's only shipped with the red power led? But a rev 5 or later can have either a red or green power led?....

So my A500 has a green led that does not dim with the audio filter, it turns completely off! and it has never been opened so the led's could not have been replaced...... Soooo i think it's safe to say that my A500 is one of the first green led versions with a rev 5 board that causes the green power led to completely turn off

Hope nobody got lost in all my rambling
