Cheap Chinese PCMCIA Ethernet Adaptors?
Ok, so this is directed mainly at those how have tried.
If you have tried using one, did it work with your Amiga or not? eBay listings, pictures, etc would be great if there are any known working models. I'm aware of the compatability list, but this post refers to those super-cheap cards that bear no brand name/model number. PZ. |

I think you will find that newer pcmcia cards wont work as the older cards like the one I mentioned above are 16-bit cardbus types. Someone will correct me if I am wrong.

OK. You are wrong.
Cardbus are always 32bits. |

You can always buy working cards for $1-2 from ebay if you know the working models (just check the readme inside the driver archive).

Does anyone by chance have a list of working cards? I've always wanted a cheap network solution for my miggy (serial blows chunks).

@Thorham: check 3c589 and the cnet archives on Aminet.
But 3com 3c589 (etherlink III) works fine and also Netgear MA401 (wireless 11b). |

Interesting Vars, maybe I'll pick one up & see how I go
On a related side-note...can somebody tell me if Card Bus & PCMCIA are the same? I can't recall if I read that they are different, or the same beast Edit: Wikipedia seems to say Card Bus is a later version of PCMCIA (V5?). Vars, can you please post a picture here of one unit that worked for you? If you could it would be most helpful in figuring out what to look for PZ. |

Sadly they're different. I've tried a cardbus network card and it wouldn't even slide in to my A1200. You can forget about getting one of those to work with your miggy

Yeah, I noted the slot difference as pictured in the Wikipedia entry...something I now recall seeing another member post here some time ago.

And cardbus devices are always 3.3V, incompatible with the 5V-16bits Amiga PCMCIA type II.

Well if they have no name and no number how do you propose to compile a list?
Honestly your chances of buying a cheap new pcmcia net card and getting it to work without knowing which chipset it has are slim to none. Drivers are written for specific chipsets. So its not a matter of the hardware being incompatible (provided it is the old 16-bit pcmcia standard) but drivers also need to be written for the chipset used. Go for the tried and trusted cards on the list like Cammy posted. |
