Ye Goode Olde Workbench... 3.1 - >3.9
Back in the amiga days, I made a backup of my HDD on a bunch of disks using lharc. I transferred it to my PC for use with WinUAE.
Lately, I wanted to update to WB 3.9 but the looks should stay the same (all MagicWB icons). So I copied a mint 3.9 installation (including BoingBags) over my 3.9 Setup (copy xh0:#? all clone dh0: ) and then merged my 3.1 Startup-sequence and user-startup with the new ones. http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?p=921620#post921620 The old icons were transferred with an icon tool (so that the new 3.9 tooltypes could be preserved). Last I adjusted the looks (disabled volume gauge, removed xen-look) to be matching the original one. Now the result is a full-blown 3.9 setup with the looks of my old system. And it's as fast, maybe even a little faster than my 3.1 setup. Nice! AmigaOS ist a great experience, I like it better than Windows or Linux. Unbelieveable how little ram it uses and how fast it is.
