Need? Define need. While at it, define "Classic Amiga", and then we can talk.
As a general retro experience, no, the PPC's doesn't fit the "need" category. |

I need my PPC's, without them I develop a rare form of depression that spirals out of control sending me into a an abyss of sadness and alcohol abuse

Thats hardly a classic Amiga need, but a need none the less. If a PPC can prevent a single dive in to an sad alcohol filled abyss, then there is definitely a need that it can fill. I vote for a price reduction if the buyer will use it as a means to stay afloat.

Well I thought classic Amiga = a desktop computer? You know, Amiga 1200, 600, 500, 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000, etc?
Sorry I thought that was a given. You only need a PPC if you are going to run OS 4 or if you want to play games like Discworld and the like. |

For some, the classic amiga experience is one where they have a TAC-2 joystick in their hands, and watch a screen with scanlines. They don't care whats in-between. For others it's a 68000 A500 system, or nothing. For me it's a little of both. Using a expanded A1200 (ACA1230/56 & dual CF, image output through the Indivision MKII) i can play the retro games with minimum hassle through WHDLoads. (Well, at least thats the intended plan.) I'm the first to admit that boatloads of memory, Gigabyte of storage, and not ever touching a floppydisc is far from the old days, but it's classic Amiga enough for me. I still want the classic desktop tho.

how far back do you need to go to use a harddrive on an amiga with a scandoubler?
probably further than you think. ive got nothing against ppc,but when you get an os that shuts out the 68k side and still calls itself classic... sure everyone has there own images of what classic is,some think an amiga shouldnt have rtg or sound cards, yet theve been around for a long time. well, its all a point of perspective really isent it? |

I was more thinking about the fact that the MKII produces a screen of the same type as were used to now-days. Flat, no scanlines, and so on. But the main point is that i willingly admit that my "classic" experience has very little to do with the way i actually used to do it. I had 60MB of harddrive, no accelerator, and only the RF cable to the telly. Pretty much all i did was gaming, and i did it all of floppies. Don't miss it for a second. WHDLoad for the win. For me, it's all about the games them self. I could just as well have been playing em on a WinUAE system with TV out, and pretend not to notice the lack of a wedge on the table. Hence, there is a need to define the classic Amiga experience, when ever someone starts talking about one. Or we wont have the same reference points, and nothing will ever be agreed on.

true, some would agree the classic experience was winuae for me its not enough.
i dont really mind using floppys, although whdload was a blessing for me. my first amiga was through rf,for about two weeks until i got a monitor same with the c64. |

Ivansc, I reckon you are closer to the mark. I would have sold the scsi card separate from the blizzard as many of us already have the accellerator...

Selling a Viper 530 (E-Matrix 530) on a seven days no reserve auction here:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/171012298759 This is the mythical Viper 530. I believe very few are around - especially with PGA CPUs. This accelerator has everything for the Amiga 500 you will ever need: - Full socketed 68030 PGA CPU+FPU 50 MHz - Takes 72PIN RAM SIMMs up to 128MB (4MB installed to get you started) - 4 IDE/ATAPI devices (HDDs or CD-ROMS) - 1 FAST SCSI2 device can be connected to the system - Socketed oscillators both on CPU and SCSI - 68000 compatibility mode Good luck!
