Another great video. Its just a shame you use C64 music instead of a SNES soundtrack.

Yeah but I couldn't find any SNES remixes I liked and besides I got permission to use music from www.c64audio.com now.

The guy from that site contacted me and asked if I could put the links to his site in the vids but it was too late to do that with the other ones now since they've gotten so many views already.. so I kinda made up for it with this one

Also - most SNES fans won't have a clue that this is C64 music anyway and I think it fits pretty well

@rsn887

That is Soul Blazer. It isn't anything like a Zelda clone, though the graphics can seem rather similar at times. It is rather a pretty linear action/adventure/RPG.

Looks like a perfect description of Zelda to me...

Differences found in Soul Blazer:

* You progress through the levels in a linear fashion. Not really having to look back other than to aquire some few items (which I do not think you really need to complete the game in most cases).

* There is an RPG-element thrown in where you gain levels by defeating enemies.

* The dungeons are much more linear than those found in Zelda, and focus is really on defeating enemies rather than puzzle solving (in the dungeons).

* The overworld 'levels' builds up as you defeat enemies in the dungeons. Houses, pepople, animals, what.not will pop-up when an enemy lair is sealed (which it will be when all the enemies spawning from it is defeated).

Yes, they do both place themselves in the action/adventure genre, but, really, there is not much Zelda to be found in Soul Blazer at all.

Sorry, but to me it sounds even more Zeldish now, except maybe some minor details with world buildup with the player (Oblivion, anyone? )...

But I do understand what you trying to tell.
I know it's not Zelda's world but the schematics are similar and it's an action/rpg - and that's exactly what Zelda is in my book, sorry, didn't have time to play it that deeply...

Except, perhaps, for the fact that it says "Music from: www.c64audio.com" at the start

Haha yeah there is that

Ah well, I still think a lot of SNES fans will miss the fact that these are remixes of C64 games.. I'm sure many of them don't even know what a C64 is.

Hehe, I didn't mean around here

Casual gamers.. on another forum I frequent, most people had no clue what the C64 is (they had no clue what an Amiga was either).

Well, yes, you could put in the 'Zelda-ish' category... and most people wouldn't mind. Just like they wouldn't mind putting Secret of Mana in that very category aswell...

...it is just that the J-RPG elements are completely absent from Zelda (besides Zelda II - The Adventure of Link). You just don't gain levels in Zelda... which is one of the 'cornerstones' in the J-RPG genre (well, the RPG genre in general).

But, anyways, I do aswell understand what point you're trying to make. It's just that I see Zelda as an action/adventure and Soul Blazer as an action/adventure with RPG-elements added (which makes the game feel and play completely different to me).

Oh, I guess there isn't more to discuss here concerning this... it's just different point of views, nothing more...

I loved the video, by the way.
