The mysterious THREE-Player Chaos Engine.
Believe it or not, I was watching today's episode of Gamesmaster on Challenge, and after the reviews they ran a short feature on the "forthcoming new game" known as The Chaos Engine. But you should've seen the look on my face when they ran the actual game footage.
It turns out that the chaps we call The Bitmap Brothers were originally going to make it a simultaneous three-player shootfest. :eek :eek :eek This would clearly mean more firepower on screen at once, and no doubt it would've generally kicked behind and joined the list of fellow past three-player fests. But we were later handed a downgraded two-player edition. Wonder what happened during the production that shattered the triple-character dream? |

Getting this beta would be indeed interesting,...
...but personally I don't miss the third character in the game and a 3-players-on-screen-mode would be practical neither in single- nor in multiplayer mode. I still hope one day we'll see a network version of CE with deathmatch, CTF and domination modes.:eek |

well...
I just read in the last issue of a German game magazine "PC GAMES" that the BITMAP Brothers indeed are working on a network/multiplayer online version of CHAOS ENGINE... |

I'd have to chase up my old copies of The One for the WIP of the original game to see if there's a mention of this, but if so,I'd suspect it,(3 players),would probably have had to have been dropped on technical grounds more than anything.

taken straigthly from the WIP from The One, October 1992 issue.
"On each level, the two heroes (there were originally supposed to be three players on-screen, but the third man was abandoned after early tests found him to be superfluous to the action and downright impractical)" |

Saw the episode again today and am starting to think that maybe the version shown on GM was a slightly different version to the one highlighted in kametyken's pic - the status panel, although showing three players, looked a bit more like the final status panel than the other versh.
