Amiga 1200 REV does it matter
SO ive only had my 1200 since early oct last year and I'm just wondering does it matter what revision your board is, does it make any difference
mine is commodore Amiga Rev 2b but is a 1a or 1b better or even are there any disadvantages of commodore over Escom ? |

Some ESCOM boards are modified to work with PC floppy drives which is not good since many trackloaders will not work. It can be reverted though:
http://www.softpres.org/article:hard..._fdd_connector Not all ESCOM boards will contain this mod though. The later boards using an HP Lisa is supposedly better with high custom resolutions (HighGfx, Xtreme etc) as it can better handle the high clock rates without creating artifacts. Besides these issues, there are no significant differences between the various revisions. |

Yes. Yes it does matter, but ... it all depends on what you want to run on it. 2B was the last revision, and is notorious for timing issues with certain accelerators, older turbo cards, like the old Blizzards etc. are buffered, and are more stable as a result, although they do take quite a performance hit for it, i have a 2B in one of my Amiga's with an EC1221 it was heads of tails, as to wether it wanted to work or not, with the 1233n, its never borked once.
So, does it matter? for every day use? loading games from disk? no, not at all. Although if you're gonna expand the Amiga, or chuck an accelerator in there, then yes, it *could* matter |

here is some info on board revisions, and timing fixes. The author of the page seems to take a very different view from you though. Sauce |

I wonder if rev 1D4 was the most "popular"/most produced mainboard for the A1200 ?

I don't really see that he claims that 2D boards are generally worse in regards to timing problems, but mainly that he only has anecdotal evidence from his 1 sample.

From what I've read the revision number printed on the board is pretty much meaningless...you could have anything!
