Abandoned Places 2 error

Guys!

Damn it, you should have made at least AP2 info correct!
Black Pearl? Who is that? The cracker?

Abandoned Places 2 is by (almost) exactly the same team as Abandoned Places - i.e. ArtGame.

The founder of C.A.P.S. should know - he wrote the thing!

Another thing:

The games (AP & AP2) are not ECS, they are strictly OCS, but both can detect extra memory and use it well. e.g. if you have extra memory at $c00000 the games shift down gfx data when needed, but if they are in chipram they are directly used (unless compressed as in AP2) etc.

Also the outer world, cities, trading, encounters, story cinematics at key points of the game etc are quite nicely done in AP1, I only see pictures from the first few *seconds* of the game.

Anyway...

BTW, it's not possible for us to play every game all the way through to get all the best shots!

Therefore, many games will have shots from the first sections of gameplay.

Can you ask him if AB 1&2 were Amiga originals e.g. if they originated solely on the Amiga?

Do the games support/use 1-meg chipram? If so, that is only available on ECS+ class machines...

From István:

Yes they were developed on the Amiga without any fancy hw or
cross-development systems like snasm or psy-q.
AP1 did have a pc port (quite lame compared to the original), and there was
an ST port planned, but cancelled by yours, IF
AP2 did not have any ports, since we finally fell out with the publisher for
good.
For more info just read the AP2 history excerpts on our site.

Hurray! Both AB games listed as Amiga originals.

I'll add some more AB2 screens.

From IF:

"Yes they do.
But an ECS game means ECS is required in order to run, which is not true, since they were designed to run properly on OCS and take advantage of whatever features available. This is quite a difference. They are OCS damnit - please don't try to tell me how they work "

I guess there is a communication gap between the HOL classification of ECS and some other people. Hopefully this can be detailed in a future update of HOL.

For clarification, I will reiterate what I stated in IRC: the ECS class used in HOL is a generalisation of the class spec the game was aimed at. Since AB supports features of ECS (such as 1-meg), then it SUPPORTS features of that class. Hence ECS. As opposed to some old 1988 ST port that croaks at the presence of real fastmem or 1meg chip (or even fakefast mem), which takes no consideration towards any class machine other than, say stock OCS A500.

What about the people with a plain 'ol A500 that want to know if a game works on it? I guess it depends on which direction you are looking at.

Games now usually have a "minimum requirements" and a "recommended"... Not that helps you any!

Surely "aimed at" is what the game was designed for? AP 1&2 was "designed for" OCS but with some extra bits.

I guess this is one of the situations where having one field for describing more than one thing gets complicated.

Anyway, keep István happy.

I have been going through HOL lately - very very nice! An invaluable resource!

We have an ECS/AGA hardware category (for games that support either/both). Perhaps we need OCS/ECS, as well?

Yes, excellent idea! Would also serve the AmigaCD issue (ECS, AGA, etc.)
