"Smuggling is a Capital Offence in this system, do you have anything to say before you DIE!"

Just look at the guy, I'm shaking!!! What's with the hat and crappy red shades! Man they under spent on the costume budget.....pulled some stuff out from the early "biggles" era and mid 70's. He'd have looked better with an afro.

Hahahaha LOL!

Going from the pictures in Frontier to this makes it look like some sort of spoof, it really is quite poor. I don't think "rushed" sums it up.

"Commodore Amiga - 3.5 inch diskette 1993 - This version was coded by David Braben himself in 68000 Assembler."

"Commodore Amiga CD32 - Compact Disc 1996 - Completely de-bugged and features the Navigation Computer, as seen in FFE, as well as other minor and cosmetic changes. The password protection was also removed."

Does this mean the CD32 version is actually better?
I recently got hold of a mint condition boxed CD32 version of Frontier (complete with all manuals and starcharts) from eBay and was interested in finding out more about the differences of the CD32 version. I found the following information in a review, some of which has already been mentioned:

Quote:
The original (floppy) Frontier was compatible with any Amiga with 1 meg of RAM. Various problems and bugs emerged in the wake of the original release, and several revisied versions slipped quietly on to the market prior to the launch of the CD32 version. Clearly then the CD32 Frontier executable benefits from all of the revisions, making it the definitive version. I have heard of at least one person copying this to a floppy and using it on a 1 meg A500! The old savegames still work, so compatibility is not an issue.

There are a few differences to the basic version. The manual copy protection was not considered necessary and removed, which is in my opinion a good thing. There is one extra item of equipment, a navigational aid which when fitted (strangely taking up naff all cargo space) will let you view and select the nearest spaceport in the system you arrive in without all that zooming around. When landing at outdoor starports you might notice a few extra things like powerlines, and it could just be me but I'd swear that space is a more realistic (darker) blue. Apart from some concessions enabling you to use the joypad to enter your name (CD32 = no keyboard, remember!?) thats it. Oh, and it came in a bigger box...
But apparrently the CD32 can only hold one saved game at a time. I use it with a WinUAE CD32 configuration (from hard disk) and it works perfectly.

Steve.

Oh man, Djay you are SOOO right! These things are getting worse:

*cue wussy camp voice*

"Doesn't it make your heart swell when you know your money is going to a good cause"

*cue cheesy grin shown below*

This thing is either the work of a comedy genius or perhaps the crappiest video/voice over game clips I've ever seen! LOL, they're hilarious.........................ly bad.

Obviously the programmers just having a laugh though. Perhaps even one or two read EAB. Own up now FFE peeps!

All I'll say is thank god for CGI actors in modern games. I thought some of the scenes in WC IV were bad, but these......

Please Djay, no more. It's really starting to hurt now. I know one thing for sure - the best version of FFE is the one without the cheesy vids.

The CD32 version is quite annoying to play though, is it a lot easier with a mouse...

Nice one, Duke!

~Enverex~ I don't have a CD32 ATM - bought one off EBay, awaiting delivery - But it works fine in emulation.
