Amiga 2000 power supply

Now that I have my GVP working, I want to do something about the noise level of the power supply. I was wondering if anybody knows of a direct replacement fan that is quieter, or if there is an easy way to replace the whole power supply with a new one...

you can use anything that uses a 12v power supply, depending on size (80mm is the standard) but you can go smaller as long as its faster...

all fans as you know have a CFM or Cubic Feet per Minute and as long as you get one that is rated the same or greater then all is fine

Ok, so I need an 80mm fan, but do you know the CFM rating for the 2000 ps? I'm going shopping for it in few hours, and can't find anything on the net....

If you look on the fan it may tell you.

Most 80mm fans push about 22CFM so anything within that order should be fine... if you are worried about such things you can get faster (albiet noiser) fans... or if you are prepared for a little modification you could try larger 100mm fans.....

theres no harm in replacing the PSU for a smaller quiter one either. its very simple to modify to use with the amiga, you can even buy converter plugs for it as well...

Ok, got me a couple of 80mm fans, I'll be mounting them tonight when I get back from work. One is a variable speed, from 1300 - 4800rpm, 22 - 72CFM, 17DBa - 49DBa, so it will be a good comparision...

But be careful to check what kind of electricity comes out of the A2000 PSU's fan connector..

I have had an A2000 PSU with a 220V AC fan.

I have one of them 220v fans here (its 160mm and made of metal... mmmm choppy fingers..) came out a Cat3 server.... ahhh those heady days of leaded thick ethnet cable..... i tell ya that pushed the CFM through the roof...

Well, I put in the first fan, a 2000rpm, 27CFM, 20DBa thingy. Very quiet, but felt like a lot less air flow than stock. I then put put the variable speed one, and at top speed, it was blowing a little better than stock, but was really loud...

So, I'm back to the drawing board... I'm really afraid of puting a fan that doesn't move a lot of air. I know the power supply doesn't get very hot, but this is the only fan in the entire case, and I have the GVP '030/50 Combo card and a 4Gb Segate 'cuda that get's pretty darn hot. And the only place to put another fan in there that I can see would be out the back to the left, to suck more air through the case, but that would block too many card slots....

I think I wil try to shoot for a quietest 40 - 50CFM fan that I can find and go from there...

Oh, the fan was a 12VDC, but I did have to rewire the plug, as the PC standard has a 3rd wire, and the other two were in wrong places....

I do not think you have to worry about heat that much. If I would actually use my A2000/030 instead of having it in my closet I would replace the fan with the most silent Papst fan or replace the PSU with a modern micro-ATX PSU modded.

I put a Zalman fan into mine and you c an feel the air coming out of the front like the wind... handy for cooling feet

It's not too noisy at all and there is a resistor cable I got with it that's supposed to make it that bit quieter although I've not tried it out.
