Citadel: WHDload

Here's another game that I've tried various versions of, but have yet to get it to run on either my modified A600 or A1200 via WHDload.

Anyone ever have any success getting it to run? I used to love playing this on my old 500, even if I did have to size down the screen and turn most the graphical details off. Would be great to play this again now that I have the hardware to handle it in it's full Wolfenstein-esque glory.

There is remake of this game for Windows. Game is too slow on A500, A600, speed was not acceptable even in Amiga times.

I read somewhere that using an older version of WHDload may work.

I heard there was a Windows port, but I have an 060 and 030 that are just dying to give this a go! Things just are not as fun when done in Windows...

....I wonder why that is?

060 should give you some pretty decent fullscreen action. I seem to recall I tried this one's WHDLoad install (from KG's pack) shortly after getting my first 030 and it worked ok for me.

Anyway, have you tried all the usual WHDLoad arguments such as NOVBRMOVE, etc.?

Hi Guys, just recently on PPA forum, we've found out that WHDLoad version of Citadel works signifficantly slower (less FPS) than the standard one.
User nostrum666 made comparison videos on his Amiga 1200 equipped with ACA1221 card:

Standard:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Aip...LjaVwAexj/view

WHDLoad:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Am5...HM8B7kEfc/view

He's using WHDLoad 18.2 and made sure nothing suspicious (like NoCache) is set in WHDLoad Citadel's icon tooltypes, nor WHDLoad.prefs.
The installer itself is quite old, dated 2012, though: http://www.whdload.de/games/Citadel.html

Any clue why there's so dramatic difference in performance?

Has he tried to activate "cache" in the tooltypes? This speeds up most of the 3d shooter.

Apparently "cache" in the tooltype made no difference, from what I got to know.

Yes, i know, the speed of this game as WHDLoad installed is slow. Maybe open a report on Mantis Bug Tracker?

I see someone created Citadela report already, but the description really confuses me:
http://mantis.whdload.de/view.php?id=4654

There's no problem to run WHDLoad version of Citadela on 68000 or 68020, there's problem it runs visibly slow on 68020+ when compared with running it from diskettes.
I don't have account there, but could someone please add a comment in Mantis about the issue we're talking here, please?

Tried real disks yesterday on my Amiga 1200 Vampire (!).
It´s still slow as hell.
Must be something else imo...

But it's even slower on WhdLoad then, I think, as 2 users reported same issue (+videos above).

I have an ACA1233n-40 for my Amiga 1200 and I also think the game should be a lot quicker with that accelerator card. I thought it was perhaps because I was used to playing the windows version. I love the game but cannot play it at that speed. Have not tried this "cache" in tool types. How should I try this to see it makes any difference for me?

HD installer for Citadel/Cytadela exists so You should try this version.
But i know it's not as easy in use as WHDLoad version and may have problems with working on better configs.

But it's true that WHDLoad version should be fixed. I suppose this version is too much degraded to use better configs.

I do not have disks for the game though, the HD Installer requires the disks yes?

Two Guys from PPA forum tried it, but it made no difference. Isn't "Cache" active by default anyway and only "NoCache" disables it?

Isn't available pre-installed version on Grandis?
