"Disk not validated"
I'm playing an emulated version of 'Wings' on winuae.
Playing for a few hours, everything seems fine except I can't save on exit because of some disk error on reel 2. No probs, just make a savestate and play from there. That goes well for a while till I finish a particular mission, then it crashes and says it's "unable to load disk validator". The weird thing is if I fail the mission it doesn't have this error and I can keep on playing... It says I need to check write protection and try again, but I have write protection turned off and numerous attempts at loading reel 2 fail. It's done a similar thing with Nobunaga's Ambition, but so far loading from savestates work fine and thus there isn't a problem there. Any ideas on how to fix? Thanks. |

Boot from a Workbench ADF in DF0 and then insert the unvalidated ADF into DF1. Wait until validation has finished, then run the game again.
Or just copy disk-validator from the Workbench ADF to the game's ADF. If the games runs on Kick 2.0+, you should prefer this as it has disk-validator in ROM. |

Verify yours disks with an antivirus, some versions of Wings, have SADDAM VIRUS in it. This virus delete the original disk-validator and save himself with the name of disk-validator.
Nobunaga Ambition have the same problem disks infected with saddam virus. |

Ok... could someone please talk me through a couple of those steps?
Sorry, but I'm pretty new to winuae, and have a basic grasp of emulation at best. |

One good program that i used back in the day was Nuke! That removed Saddam-viruses for good . It can be found on LSD Legal Tools Disk 07, search the net .
I can tell ya, the Saddam virus had infected over half of my floppy disks back then. It was a bugger, until i gave them the Nuke-treatment. |

I scanned the entire winuae folder with AVG and nothing came up. I'm trying to work out how to run FixDisk but again my lack of knowledge is letting me down.
Please help! |

Fixdisk is very simple to use: point it to the disk drive where the disk you want to validate is inserted, make it run a scan for error and at the end it will make you notice if the disk is not validated and it will ask if you want to fix that.
or else, in the menu, there's the "validate disk" option |

a Windows virus scanner wont find any Amiga virus. To use Fixdisk you would need to setup a workbench enviroment where you can install it. You should have a look at the Green Amiga Alien Guide : http://guide.abime.net/ There you'll get the info on how to set up a working, installed workbench. Oh and when you have that you could also use WHDLoad and get Wings from WHDownload.com so you don't have to fix disks anymore |

That $#&*#$ SADDAM virus also infected most of my disks
Nowadays I just copy a fresh version from ADF to disk if it won't validate... too much work for me to clean everything up |

Don't worry about it, mate. That's exactly how I found them. It's good to know we were both thinking the same way. BTW, the earlier version 1.7e (659kB) is still available here: http://amigan.netfast.org/adfscan.zip Get all the best Amiga antivirus programs from here: http://www.vht-dk.dk/vhtdk/amiga/download.htm Last edited by prowler; 06 November 2008 at 23:15. |

It's easy to get an index of all 149 LSD Legal Tools disks, but nowhere can they be downloaded. This page: http://recordedamigagames.ath.cx/modules/content/?id=38 has most of them listed, and the entry for Disk 07 appears thus: LSD Legal Tools Disk 007 (1992)(LSD).zip (580.24KB) ...but all the links are broken. If you have this disk, could you please upload it to the Zone? [Edit] Scrub that. The LSD Legal Tools Disks can be downloaded here: http://ftp.back2roots.org/back2roots...sd-legaltools/ Last edited by prowler; 08 November 2008 at 02:29. |

I've spent a few hours working on getting it going and after a few hitches I got through to installing magic workbench, when after installing and changing the settings as recommended, I have a red screen come up with "Software Failure" and I can't get past it to the workbench to fix the problem. What can I do? Or do I have to go from the start and do it again? |
