I don't think that device (clock/fastmem card) is relevant. How much chip men do you have? I can't get over 438k on my A500.

I can start the game perfectly.
Try running with no startup, cd to the futurewars dir and type 'whdload slave futurewars.slave' |

Great idea, but unfortunately that doesn't work. I don't think it's a chip mem issue for me. I can move the large white arrow cursor around on the black screen, but that's it.
Could be a corrupt file, but I've tried recopying them all into the HDD once more. Hmm... |

What is this Supra Clock you have installed? Have you tried with it removed?

It's just fast mem and a clock battery. Original 80s hardware. I can try later. Wouldn't have expected it to conflict.

Failing that, if you type whdload into shell it will give you a list of options to try in the game .info file.

Hey guys, guess what:
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-I...w2040-h1148-no It works! So, the solution here was just one thing. Switch the Agnus to 8327A so that I can hold down both mouse buttons during boot and change the display to PAL. Then I insert the original Future Wars disk in the floppy drive, and it works! I haven't been able to get any WHDLoad version working, but that's OK. I like doing things all original. Thanks for all your help. Now if you'll excuse me, I've got to go back in time... 👍
BTW, were you able to save the game? Press both mouse buttons for the menu. For me, it keeps promoting for a blank formatted disk, even though that's what I've inserted several of. I think my internal stock drive might be a little iffy, if it works for you... |

I haven't tried it on a real Amiga but it works in WinUAE. Here's a Save disk to write to floppy.

Unfortunately no save disk (even yours) will work. There are other reports of this issue: http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=35674
Through some research, those with the issue say the WHDLoad version works fine as far as saving games goes. However, that leads me back to square one and the issues in this thread. To recap: - WHDLoad of this game just freezes at a blank screen with a large white cursor - I've tried changing the boot display mode to PAL, the WB3.1 to PAL and adding "PAL" to the Future Wars WHDLoad icon's tooltype – same issue, black screen So I still haven't actually played this game! – If I run it from floppies by booting into PAL, it won't recognize any blank floppies as being formatted in order to save the game (essential) – If I run it from WHDLoad, it doesn't proceed past a black screen Help...? |

Have you tried with KillerGorillas WHDDownload install? should work.
WHDLoad: are other games working for you? I know about pirated keyfiles that are detected and lead to a black screen. WHDLoad is super-reliable and the best option for you. Well, there's still ScummVM AGA (Future Wars is supported), but it will be slow. |

I think I got it working with WHDLoad. See bug tracker here: http://mantis.whdload.de/view.php?id=3306
