Pool of Radiance WHDload working?

Via winUAE and Bloodwych's WBclassic, I have tried several adf's (both cracked and "non" cracked) of this SSI goldbox classic with the latest WHDloader, but to no avail. Install works to completion, but when I go to boot the game, I get an error message along the lines of "corrupted or incompatible version".

I imagine if I had ipf's instead of adf's, things would work. And my original Amiga floppies are of no use on a PC emu

Anyone know of a version that does work with the WHDloader?

Don't use ADFs for WHDLoad installs. Use the preinstalled version : http://www.whdownload.com/games/Upda..._v1.1_0555.zip

Hey CyberD, any idea on how to make my saved games from my poolsave adf available to the WHDloaded game?

Oh yes, and the pre-installed version works much better!

In WB, copy the contents of your savedisk to the 'data/save' subfolder of the WHDLoad version. That should work (untested ).

Thanks, yes, makes sense. Being a novice at UAE, I must ask, how do you access the contents of an adf in WB? I tried clicking the adf, and then initiated a process "disk to file" (?) which did not seem to do anything...

I first played it on an Apple IIc back in I think 1988. Then on an A500, then on PC DOS for a very short time, then the Amiga version again via emulation. I have restarted the game more times than I can remember, and only seem to play up until the the part where you rescue the girl from the caves in the wilderness. Must finish it... 22 years and counting later!

1. Mount RAD:
2. download TransADF + GUI
3. start TransADF
4. select RAD: as a disk
5. select desired ADF-file and press start (or similar)

there you'll have the adf-contents in RAD:

You should have DOpus in ClassicWB Start that and it should be rather self explanatory.

Many thanks for the responses.

Using WBclassic, I used DOpus to view and then copy the contents of my poolsave adf to a temp folder (A-Temp).

I then moved those files into the PoolOfRadiance\data\save folder after deleting what was in there (default save and character files). I then had to rename each file individually by removing the "poolsave" at the start of each and every file name (mass renaming altered the file's names) (chose to do this in XP, as ATM I am far more comfortable in that environment).

[Note, if your poolsave adf has used up all of the save games slots, there will be around 146 files to rename! Best off loading the game from the adf's, figuring out which save game you want, and just rename those files (around 12 or so).]

I then loaded the WHDload version of PoR, and selected the load game option, and under path, entered "poolsave:" (must have the ':' at the end) and sure enough, my precious save game was there.

Now to see how many orcs Conan and his Two-Handed sword+2 can "sweep" in one hit...

Greets.

Would remark that I succeeded with no rename of my save files on ADF, just simply copied them to HDD's appropriate save folder.

Issues:

1 - With WHDLoad everything sped up fine, except for Saving game, which takes 3 Minutes!!!

(Tried many settings in chipsets, rams, sounds, gfx but in vain, using Classic WB, WinUAE)

2 - Why is the quit key offered (F10)?
I read in this thread (post #5) quit key is the KEY for something in general. Perhaps not in Pool of Radiance?

So: How to save game quickly, as save states are not advised for WHDLoad?

Thanx for info!

hmm I wonder if this explains why I could always install the gold box games, but could only play up to saving it once, after that they always reported as corrupt or something..

You r talking about the 3 disks ADF version, supplied with the almost-corrupt/invalid savedisk.

I could repair that disk with DiskSalv V1.42 and played much, gathering 70k Exp.

IMHO easier to drop the supplied savedisk and create one normal, standard ADF floppy, with the name "poolsave".

Also in ADF ver:
- changing savedisks in 1 session will invalidate disk
- save states haven't worked

----
But WHDLoad seems fine, except for one freezing (at city council, when "the way is blocked" text appeared), and long saving.

How to save to RAM, or evade this thingy?
