Viper 1260!!!

Hello,

I was installing Amiga OS 3.9 the other day on my CF card through Winuae and everything worked out fine.

But i did not install any "drivers" or library files for the card on the system and when i transfered the CF card to the amiga im not to impressed by the speed wich got me thinking that i might have to install some thing to activate the 1260.

I read in the manual that you should use the install disk wich i don't have.

Is there another card that i can use the drivers from or use as a install disk? i noticed that the same company did a card called Apollo 1260 might i be able to use those drivers?

Regards Marcus

Yes, will work too. You need a 68060.library or your Amiga will crash.

You can find the driver disk here: http://www.l8r.net/install/accel/apollo060.DMS

Sweet.

But i am unsure that the card is functional 100% driverwise!

The "CPU60 B" command should be added after the setpatch command in the startup sequence file.

In my file i wrote it down just below the Setpatch quiet command
Ofc i copied the cpu60 file to C:

It says in the manual that you should be able to run the cpu60 command without options to get a status on the card, but either i am to dumb to get it right or i am doing something wrong becouse it does not come up with anything when i run the command.

Should i run the cpu60 file from some special program or can i just execute it from let say "dopus"?

*Example startup sequence*
Setpatch Quiet
C:CPU60 B

I have no idea if that is the correct syntax for it.
When i run the system info program it does come up with cpu 68060 and all that on the information about the cpu, but i just wanted to be sure that i am not missing out on anything vital.

you don't need the cpu060 command on the startup-sequence
that command is for disable/enable 060 caches
when setpatch is executed all caches will be enabled

68060 libraries work properly if C:CPU returns "System 68060 68882 (INST: blahblah".

"System 68060 (INST: blahblah" = wrong/missing libraries = no FPU support and slow speed because of wrong cache settings.

Ok.

That sounds like everything should be in order then.

I was just unsure because in the manual they said that i should write down the "cpu60 B" command for optimal performance (B=Best)

but like you said i get no library missing stuff in the system info.

I will run a alienbreed 3D when i get home, i recon i will notice if the cpu is activated or not that way.

Thanks

It was probably required before AmigaOS had proper built-in 68060 support.
