I fear you are right my friend, in which case I've got the choice of either trying to find another dead A1200 motherboard, or sacrificing a working one to repair the scandoubler.

Methinks I might remove the DAC temporarily from a working a1200 to test the scandoubler - I can always replace it later once I find a replacement.

For now, I'll carry on working my way down this nice bottle of ale.

Mmmm... Riggwelter!
Why not try Futurlec or other parts supplier? Those DAC are not rare, do you know?

Update: I just de-soldered a known working DAC from a working A1200 to test.

Plugged it into the faulty Scandy 1200 and.... IT WORKS!

A BIG thankyou to everyone who has contributed to this thread, especially Jaqube without whose help I would have given up on repairing the Scandoubler a long time ago.

Both chips (DAC and MACH) are now socketed, and I've replaced all the original wiring between boards - albeit with the same crappy IDE-style ribbon cable as the original wiring. I'll think about replacing the Lisa PCB > VGA output cable with something a bit more shielded, as that is carrying the analogue signal so is susceptible to interference. The rest of it is all digital, so will probably just leave that as it is, although I might tidy it up a bit.

Hurray! The successful end of a longstanding repair job!

Now, more beer please... I'm on the O'Hanlon's Ruby Port Stout tonight

PS - Zetro, I'm planning to borrow a decent digital camera from work this week, so I'll post some pics up for you then.
