Happy What became of your Amiga 'shop'?

from back in the day?

Mine is still a computer games shop. Renamed and new owner... not been in for over a decade. I like to think of it as an Amiga place of worship

The Computer World place which was next door to it is now a bargain basement shop... they were an upmarket classy sort of business.... who sold big box Amiga's and PeeCees with geeky salesmen!

What happened to yours?

My dad had 2 shops together. One was an electronics store, the other was his main business (Computer shop). The computer shop was the only one in my home town of Barry.

The computer shop is now a Hydro Power store (selling power tools) and the electronics store is now a Computer Shop (selling PC's).

I miss the after school times I used spend round there playing on the A500's before I actually got one, .

Ladbroke Computing, 33 Ormskirk Road, Preston : Closed

Ladbrokes was quite a famous shop in it's day. Every Amiga & Atari magazine had the double page spread.

Power Computing, 44 a/b Stanley Street, Bradford MK41, 7RW : Looks closed.

Again another very famous Amiga & Atari shop in every issue of Amiga format.

That was one of the shops in Preston near to where I grew up. There was an Amiga shop in Lostock Hall (near by village) which I considered to be more "my shop" but as I said it is now an adult shop.

the shop i visited is still there http://www.computermania.co.za/ stall 61 though it has obviously moved with the times

He used to sell a lot of used amiga/st games etc.. Though I didn't buy much off him (Blood Money was my first paid for game, and was from here).. I remember a mate from school used to steal ST games off him I've not been in years, but I reckon he'll have cctv, and the mate moved away

The shop I purchased my 1200 from was closed down, knocked down and the land is now part of the Westfield Centre in Derby, specifically Debenhams or Next as they are in the approximate location.

Calculus Computer Stores (they used to do double page/four page spreads in Amiga Format) had a shop in Northwich Cheshire where I used to go in the early 90s. The shop is no longer Calculus but Level 1 and still sells games, hardware and does PC stuff.

The local Amiga store was Creative Computers in Redondo Beach, CA. The company is now MacMall/PCMall but their old location is some office supply store. Also, Centaur had an office space upstairs next to the parking.

Mine (Was an Acorn User back in the day) was one of "The Computer Depot" stores. 205 Buchanan Street, Glasgow. Not sure if they were a "Scotland only" chain. They did All 8/16/32 bit machines: Miggies, ST's, Arcs and it sold a lot of games and other software as well. Was on 2 levels IIRC. Now of course long gone

Mine, "Complete Computers" (very reassuring name that) is now a boring lighting fixtures shop. I used to love to call in there on my way home from school to watch amazing Amiga stuff, before I got my own A500. I still remember being blown away watching the intro to The Killing Game Show
