Lol, you're thinking of Warcraft?

Smash TV had memorable speech, like the BINGO! when you picked up the bomb thingy and the announcer saying "Good luck! You'll need it!"

To think they used the SAME ones for Command & Conquer and umpteenth Dune 2 clones!

Anyway, I don't remember the beginning, but I liked the Assasin intro speech...

Oh I think this is how it went:

"The evil Mydan, tyrant of the highest order
lies hidden deep within his underground lair...
Allied security forces demand his reign to cease...
One man is needed....

That man.. is you."

The first game I ever played on my shiny new Amiga 500 back in 1988 contained some smashingly sarcastic lines.

The following year, I utilised the best of them to taunt a friend who was learning 68000 at the time.

The two most insincere samples were:

"Don't fail now!" (whenever the power LED started flashing)

and

"You're Doing Great!" (to be said at the least opportunic moment, possibly after another Software Failure or the program started running at warp speed and COULD NOT BE STOPPED.)

Both, of course, from Goldrunner

And what about:

"The deisgn is ready!"
Or the redhaired bitch saying "Wanna join me?"
Or the same redhair bitch denying to your request "Huh! NO!". I loved that one.

And when you fuck up... what does it say? Something like "It's ALL OVER!!!!"

Hi folx!

1st message on the board... (just stumbled here comin' from the WinUAE board )

soooo, we have a bunch of connoisseurs here, so I suscribe to some previously chosen goodies:

1) "Ice Creaaaaam, Ice Creaaaam", along with "REPLAY" in Speedball II

2) "player one requires KEYS" in Alien Breed...Damn, she had such a stress on the word "keys", just as if she used her last breath for it

(Funny, my Deliplayer just begins playing the "GODS" game music, is it the Bitmap Bros spirit floating around?!)

3) The laugh from the tower before crushing a pawn in that ooold Interplay animated Chess game (never been redone in any way since the old says it seems!? too bad, with all these fancy 3D effects we have now )

4) "I won, I won"..Last phrase uttered by the "winner" of that nuking game...what was the game title?? Had an intro with a cowboy riding a XXX megaton nukebomb screaming a loud "Yeeeha".... And all the characters were taken more or less from Spitting image..darn memory ...

5) "Oh no" ...Eternal Lemmings...

Ive been reading about Starglider today in the latest issue of EDGE RETRO.

From the latest issue of EDGE RETRO

One of Jez Sans proudest moments during the games development was discovering a way to make the ST's sound chip sing:

"The soundchip had no analogue output and certainly no waveform. I opened up the Atari and put a voltmeter across the outputs of the sound chip, and by playing with the volume control of the three sound channels and measuring the voltages of how they interact I built up a lookup table that allowed me to play waveforms on hardware that was in theory not capable of doing it"

They really DID know how to get the most outta the machines in those days eh? Impressive stuff.

The mournful warning from Gauntlet (arcade version, natch)that "Warrior is about to die..." was something I regularly adopted when feeling particularly hungry and wanted to point it out.

Eerie, eerie voice.

Can't remember any other quotes from Gauntlet; did the other characters have similarly sinister warnings?
