Thanks mfilos, but the changes to make TagLiFE 68000 compatible could be done easily by a bunch of simple replacements. The only difficult thing is to avoid making mistakes like using the wrong registers. In case that you have a 68000 system installed you may check it out. Maybe, it can make some MiniMig users happy, too?

Me again PeterK.
I'm currently using the icon.library that comes with the pack in this thread in the ClassicWB Scalos versions. Works very well, plenty of chipram and not noticed any issues. I know this older version uses external zlib, PNG datatype and IconBeFast routines. Is it slower than the updated one? Am I better off using a newer lib or is there not much performance difference between the two? Any downsides to using the newer lib with more integration? The Scalos packs use native ECS/AGA graphics and also RTG in the P96 version if that is relevant. Thanks for the support. TagLiFE 68000 version seems to be working well. |

Just using the new icon.library would suffice man.
The PNG decoding is indeed faster than using zlib and in general the speed increase is really noticeable when you try on real Amigas. zlib is not needed anymore unless you have other programs that need it |

@Bloodwych
mfilos is right, the new icon.libraries are better, of course. Just wait a little with using the 68000 version in your packages, since there are still some problems with icon fixing reported. I'm working on it. Update: There is a new icon.library 46.4.325 available now with some more fixes and improvements for the 68000 version. It's working on some A500+ Amigas already as reported at A1k.org. Last edited by PeterK; 10 September 2013 at 03:12. |

Getting to the end now of full PeterK icons support in the packs, including the 68000 version.
Does the FastColor command work without the newer workbench.library? Does it do anything in Scalos? I'd imagine the other commands like IconBorderOFF etc also need the newer workbench.library, which I can't include as it's an OS39 file. At the moment I'm using the NewIcon package to add borderless icons in the non-Scalos packs - seems to work well. Scalos of course has borderless icons ability built in. |

Hi Bloodwych,
yes, the FastColors instruction should also work with Scalos, although I didn't try that yet, but it makes setting directly to the icon.library config. If you want to include Stephan Rupprecht's CopyIcon tool then use my recompiled version for your 68000 distributions. Please also include the original CopyIcon44.lha, since I've no explicit permission from Stephan for my modified version (I didn't get an answer from him last year, but I think it's ok). |

Final thing I want to add - will converting all the NewIcons to GlowIcons during the install routine of your library result in improved performance?
Or do NewIcons display faster than OS35 icons? |

The OS 3.5 icons should be faster than the NewIcons, but just a little, not significant, I guess. I've no benchmark tool to compare that exactly. The NewIcon images are 7-bit encoded tooltypes and thus it takes some extra time to decode these toolstrings into byte-streams again. Nevertheless, NewIcons are decoding pretty fast on my WinUAE system.
Btw, using Stephan Rupprecht's CopyIcon tool gives you the option (see ToolTypes) to drop the NewIcon information when you swap the images. I would recommend to do that. Last edited by PeterK; 05 October 2013 at 23:53. |

Once again appreciate the support.
I have a script (man I love my scripts) I use quite often to pull out all icons from a pack. Comes in handy for the WB13 themes. Then used CondenseIcon from Aminet from within OS39 to strip them down all at once and covert to GlowIcon format. Took a couple of minutes. So now when you enable PeterK icons in the ADVSP version, the icons change over to GlowIcons. Disable, and they return back to NewIcons. Lol, I'll leave the pretty and awesome looking Workbench setup down to your capable hands Retrofan. |
