Chip ram sticks ?
What kind of memory stick's will work as chipram in A4000 ?
Will an Type: FPM Size: 2MB Pin Count: 72 Latency: 60NS ECC: None Registered: No Voltage: 5V Chip Configuration: -- Refresh Rate: -- Work ? Or can I use a 4mb stick 32 or 36 bit edo? Last edited by droopy; 27 July 2013 at 11:42. |

I used a 4mb stick. It works fine.

It must be double sided and 2MB or larger. FPM preferred..

OK thanks for the replies.. the one that sits there now is 8ns and in the other slots i have 16m 50 ns so I want to try to get all onboard memory 50ns.. or atleast 60ns for the chip ram.(50ns is quite hard to find in 2mb sticks)
If I understand correctly I can use 4 and 8mb (perhaps even 16 or 32 ?) stick Fpm and the a4000 only "se" the first 2 meg. If so my chace to find a suitable chip Is much easier. How about EDO type ? they are much easier to find. how much fast memory can be added (32 bit 4Gb) ? or is there any limitations of fast mem ? Last edited by droopy; 28 July 2013 at 10:40. |

EDO probably won't make a difference. The motherboard only supports 16MB of fast and the custom chips only support 2MB of chip.
You can add additional RAM via CPU cards (Cyberstorm and similar) and Zorro III cards (search the web for ZorRam and BigRamPlus). |

it doesn't make any difference if you use a lower latency chip ram stick, so no need..
EDO should work as well, but makes no difference (at least it works for fast ram, which is controlled by Ramsey, but chip ram is controlled by Alice, so may not, I only tried for fast ram).. Unless you overclock the motherboard, using anything faster than 70 ns for fast ram (with ramsey 4 clock mode set; it defaults to 5 clock for which 80ns is ok) won't make a difference either.. |
