I had an hour-long session on the A500 this morning.

Briefly played Speedball 1 and 2, X-Out, Amegas, P.O.W, Buggy Boy, Major Motion, Cybernoid and Ikari Warriors.

I'm actually more interested in my Amiga than my Xbox 360 at the moment (bored of playing Forza 3 and Fifa 10 all the time).

I just bought a Gamecube and these games, Resident Evil Zero, Resident Evil 1 remake, Resi 2/3/4 and Code X. Lots of gaming ahead I am actually quite surprised how good the graphics are on the Gamecube (Resi Evil games anyway). Not powered on 360 in over 2 months.

Its quite hard too, lots of bullet dodgeing I bought the game in 1998 and found it in a box with some other games recently, it must be quite a rarity as I don't think many were made. The front cover looks hand drawn, and is pretty bad to be honest, but don't judge a book by its cover and all that... what a hidden gem the game is!

Yeah you are correct, best remake ever and it still manages to capture the greatness of the original. Looks great as well.

Just finished playing Risk Factions on the xbox (Really enjoying it); and now I'm going to see if I can get some of my old classic PC games to work on windows 7 32bit. If that fails I'm going to play Pang or Rainbow Islands.

I have really been laying down the law in UFO: Enemy Uknown (in genius mode) on the Amiga

A truly sublime game that rewards the "save often" principle =)

I also took the opportunity to play this on the PC via DOSBox, alas other than a flashy intro I felt the game is somehow better on the Amiga.

I was also playing this on my PSP *(via PSx emulation)* and I have to admit it certainly has the better sound of all three versions, alas its buggy and crashes a lot - espcially on VERY LARGE UFO's >

The Dreamcast is my machine of choice right now, the 360 is gathering dust! The two games getting my attention are:

Skies of Arcadia I am gutted I missed this first time around but it is a cracking RPG - I don't normally touch this genre but it flows nicely.

Also I got hold of Tokyo Bus Guide for the DC as well, a totally bizarre Bus simulator that penalises you for hitting pedestrians, kerbs, late indicating, speeding and poor lane crossing. Yet it very very compelling - I love its mission/level based structure getting progressively harder routes and rounadbouts LOL.

I strongly recommend checking this out for pure novely value alone!

At the moment I'm dedicating my free time playing Crash and Burn on winUAE... It took me forever to find that game again. But I found it back on one of the game compilation disks in the TOSEC collection. It's one of the most frustating gameplay experiences ever, but for me it has a high nostalgia factor as well....

EDIT:
... oh, and some time is spent playing Dead Space and Mass Effect 2 on the 360...

Gave a try to the PC version of Rocket Knight, a recent new game based on the Sparkster franchise.

"Budget" game, also for PS3 and Xbox 360 apparently.

I'd recommend to spend 30 minutes to one hour to anyone wanting to try it.
It should be enough to cover the:

- 1st level, which is a bit bland/soul-less, but acts as a sort of tutorial

- 2nd level, which is a shoot'em up phase. Not really hard I suppose but during the first (and only) playthrough some new enemies managed to surprise me to the point that I ended losing a life

- 3rd level. The game starts to be hard and you need to use some tricks to get some bonuses. Therefore you can no longer rush into the level.

- 1st boss (actually second since you have a fight VS Axel Knight in the shoot'em up level). Managed to kill it the first time (average player for platformers in general) but by a small margin.

I do not like the graphics very much (2.5D, whereas I enjoyed it in a game like Strider 2).

I also found that the invincibility time when hit is a bit short, resulting in getting sometimes not enough time to get out of a troublesome situation (such as landing "in/behind" the boss) and therefore getting hit several times.

Controls work well (especially with a joypad).

There are check points in the levels (mandatory it seems) and the game automatically saves your progress when you finish a level. It can then be played in free play mode.

I took a look online and the game seems relatively short (4 worlds), but then if the difficulty keeps increasing it can be a decent challenge. Besides it seems there are achievements and special modes (all the modern console games gimmicks), so veteran platform players might find additional value there.

Overall, I'd say that if you like the Sparkster games, the game is interesting enough.
I don't believe it will reach the level of Sparkster (the second Mega Drive game) which is my favourite. But still it is nice to see a new game in the series and it is rather good.

bought Fear 2 at an alltime low price of 10 euros, and I purchased Monkey Island 1 & 2 SE through Steam.

Dangerous little portal, Steam... Especially since now they added an online payment system (iDeal) that is used in the Netherlands, allowing you to pay online through your own bank. There is simply no effort anymore to pay & play!

I'm playing such an old version of Sensible Soccer that there's no pass back rule and the Keeper's pick up the ball! - It' better than sensible World of Soccer in game play if you ask me - just feels a bit better to play if you know what I mean...

also Silly Putty... great game...

Gods on the Amiga!

I have been replaying and replaying worlds one and two, trying to figure out all the secret treasures and things in each level. The level design and scripting in this game is absolutely ingenious! Levels are littered with secrets and hidden rooms.

I like how it sometimes gives you a glimpse of some secret room or you come across a locked door and wonder how you could open it. Then you finish the level and cannot stop wondering how the hell that one door could be opened and what might be behind it. I really like how you have to replay the levels to find all the secrets because of one-way passages.

Also, the game sometimes throws you an extra life if you suck badly, or gives you extra money if you do exceptionally good. It feels like you are playing with a human dungeon master behind the scenes!

Even though I haven't figured out everything about world one and two, I just started on world three yesterday and was able to buy the little pet dragon in the shop. A pet dragon that fights with you? Hell yes - this game is such a masterpiece!

There's so many little touches that make this game awesome. For example the way you start without any weapon (!), then a monster comes towards you and you have to quickly pick up the dagger, turn around and shoot it first thing in the game. The written hints you get about secrets. The way different weapons really behave differently (mace destroys cracked stones, spear goes through walls etc.)! The thieves! The sound effects! And needless to say the graphics and animations are some of the most beautiful pixel art I have ever seen, they seem to shine and glisten in this pixel-perfection, and on top of that each world looks completely different.

Easy to learn, hard to master Lots of replay value in Gods if you want to get it all. Just ask Dast about it
