Connecting A1000 to Amiga Explorer via serial

Hi Folks,

I have been transferring data from my A2000 to PC using a serial cable and Cloanto's Amiga Explorer for some time now, but I'd like to connect-up my 1000 now.

I'm aware the 1000 has a different serial port to the 500 & 2000, so how do I go about connecting it? What do I need to be wary of?

Is there a better (cheap, simple) way to get data off the A1000?

Wouldn't it be possible to swap the 1000's hard drive out with the 2000's? If you're fine with the same transfer method via the 2000, that is.

If you really want to be sure, make an A1000 -> standard RS232 adapter out of two male DB23 connectors and a short length multi conductor cable.

gnd, rx, tx, rts, cts, dsr, dtr, cd are the ones that you need to hook up. They are on standard numbered pins in the A1000 serial port, only the gender is incorrect, so directly connect those pins together, 2-2 3-3 4-4 5-5 6-6 7-7 8-8 20-20. If you hang that adapter off the back of the A1000, you don't ever have to worry about connecting any rs232 device to the A1000 again.
