128k Spectrum Emulator For Amiga (no MMU)
Evening all,
As I've not been quite sure where to put this thread (Apps or Hardware), I've decided that this is probably the best place for it. The reason is, is that the query I have is two-fold. First of all, I'd love to get a decent 128K compatible Spectrum emulator up and running on my Amiga. I have ZXAM, and whilst it's pretty good, it doesn't support many file formats, only doesn't support 128k. Looking over on the World of Spectrum, I see that there are a few 128k compatible emulators for the Amiga, but they seem to require an MMU (which I don't have). So, with that in mind, my questions are: - Is there a decent 128k compatible Spectrum emulator, that will run full speed (and with sound) on a 68030 @ 50mhz? - If there aren't any decent ones that don't need an MMU, how do I go about getting one? Can I somehow plug one in to my Blizzard accelerator board, or will I have to get a brand new accelerator? Apologies if the above questions seem daft, or if I've not provided enough information. I have little to no idea as to how you get an MMU installed in an Amiga, so any help would really be appreciated. Many thanks! |

I can't remember if this requires an MMU or not but you may want to check it out: http://aminet.net/package/misc/emu/ASpEmu
It does need AHI for sound though and you really need to install BlazeWCP to prevent the graphics breaking up. Do that and it does run at a reasonable speed but not quite full speed. You don't state how much Fast RAM you have but if you have 8MB then ZXLive might be a better bet. |

Doesn't ASPEmu require an MMU, though? I don't have one.

Anyway, I liked CBSpeccy back in the day but unfortunately that one needs an MMU too. |

I've got 32 megs of fast, so will give ZXLive a go and see how I get on. I've tried Spectrum emulators on various machines, but love emulating it on the Amiga as the picture output looks so good on a CRT with RGB SCART. Thanks again! |

A quick update: Tried ZXLive, but even on a 50mhz 030 it absolutely crawls.
Looks like I'll be sticking to ZXAM. Thanks for all your help! |

Hey man, u need at least 040 40MHz for smooth 128k emu on the A1200 IIRC.
You are right, picture on CRT look 100% same very nice, there was some emu where you could assign keys however you wanted on the Amiga side, very nice, you could run "qaop" in emu but then assign that to buttons or joystick. Forgot emu, maybe it was 128k live. Try Klax 128k on your 030/50MHz, it was not smooth but playable! |
