Lightbulb Problems when running WinUAE without Admin rights

Hi!
I have same problems with WinUAE 1.6.1. If I run it as normal user, I can't copy files into the harddrive inside WinUAE. I have also noticed that I can't save new configurations in the WinUAE gui.

If I'm logged on as Administrator everything works without any problem. I think my problem is that as a normal user I don't have write access to the configuration files in WinUAE.

On my machine that runs Windows XP with Sp3 I'm logged on as normal user. The admin account is only used when I install new program, like WinUAE.

Before I try to make it work without administrator rights I just want to ask if WinUAE requires the user to be logged on as Administrator in order to work properly?

Kind Regards
Zed

Hi Zed,

IIRC, you can avoid the requirement to be logged in as Administrator by choosing an alternative destination folder when installing the program.

Choosing something like c:\Emulators\WinUAE should do the trick.

Hi Zed,

Alternately, you can download WinUAE as a zip file, and unzip it to any folder (except program files). There has been a major update since v1.6.1, WinUAE has reached v2.0.1.

You can set WinUAE to use different folders for its diskfiles, screenshots, etc.

Just set corresponding folder and registry access rights. If you don't understand the rights system it doesn't make sense to use it.

Thanks, I'll try that.

I have installed WinUAE in a different folder and that solved the problem. Everything works fine now without Admin rights.

Thanks for the help

Kind Regards

...but that's what caused the problems with Administrator rights in the first place!
