mailman and dlfsilver: fonts are convertible to bitmap, but however it has to be a free font and i haven't found a free one close enough to the original. i'll look at other free foundries later on, but if you come out with one you are very welcome

[edit] i've posted a request for help for the font at typophile. let's hope that they can give a good suggestion

i'm getting mad! i've found the font, it's a macintosh bitmap, extracted the .hqx file, extracted the .sit file inside the .hqx and now i have a .bmap of 0 bytes and a .bmap.rsc of 50,2 Kb.
looked for a way to convert them to pc but the old dos program bmap2afm has disappeared from the net. also other font converter programs, like the entire fontlab suite, don't aknowledge the files.
is there any of you using macintosh that has an idea?
is it also possible that it is an error in the decompression on windows, would someone else want to try?

Heys marco, I was looking arround and i found this,

http://www.macdisk.com/fontsen.php3

Quote:
Why is Transferring Fonts Problematic?
Transferring fonts between Macintosh and PC rises two kind of problems. First, the file format is not exactly the same (in particular for T1 fonts). This means that some kind of conversion must occur.
Secondly, on the Macintosh, fonts are stored in the resource fork of the file. When files are transferred through a network, or by email, you often get therefore an empty file, the data fork.
Transferring fonts between Macintosh and PC must be done using real Macintosh media (HFS volumes) or "Macintosh-like" media (MS-DOS volumes handled by File Exchange on a Macintosh, NTFS volumes handled on a NT Server with SFM, ISO 9660 CD-ROM with Apple Extensions). MacDisk manages all those data media.
hope it helps.

thanks, but no more needed! 5 minutes after the last post i've found an alternate font Genoa, like Venice, in both formats, mac and pc! and it's free

Genoa Read Me
by Alan R. Townsend

Genoa is a Type 1 font set basically similar to the Venice font that came
with the Mac OS. It is designed for use with the Macintosh computer and any
Postscript¨ printer. It is also Adobe Type Manager (ATM) compatible.

Since Genoa is a display font, it is generally not acceptable for body
text. This font includes both Roman and Italic faces.

I make no claims as to the completeness or usefulness of this font, nor is
any warranty implied. This font is supplied as is.

This font is supplied as Freeware. I am not asking for any money, but do ask
that you include this file if you pass it on to someone else. If you feel
compelled to pay for this, send any checks, money orders, Type 1 fonts of
your own design, postcards, comments, or whatever to:

do someone has familiarity with the font conversion? i did it some years ago with some program i have forgot, and now, using bitline and atap (both from aminet) with the afm files, i seems not to be able to succeed.

the Genoa font needs to be converted, as the size required is around 11; the size take count also of the upper part of character's body in amiga? i don't remember: either case, it's 7 or 11 while GenoaRoman has only 9 and then large sizes. can someone confirm please?

i've done the italian translation of the resourced text: it is yet to be done the translation of big coloured text, .inf files, and item names.
i've put attention to the accents (',"'",') and i have used no others special characters. i've stayed with the original the most, save a couple of adaptations. the lenght of italian text is significantly bigger that the english one, so some break in the code may be no more synchronized with the space in the text boxes. (the new text file is about the 1/10 longer of the old one).
