OS X like underpinning features in WinUAE

I know this wouldn't make any sense, but here are some ideas for future releases of WinUAE.

I was watching the Apple WWDC 2009 and I was impressed with Snow Leopard features regarding the underpinnings of that operating system.

What about threading in WinUAE, OpenCL Support, beyond the 4GB memory limit. Maybe some unix-like features, posix support, Amiga Unix integration. These are just ideas about improving the underpinnings.
Maybe integration with Bell Labs OS-9.

Anyone have WINUAE underpinning ideas, post them here.

Any more buzzwords you want to throw out there?

I for one think WinUAE's underpinnings need serious upgradation. Electrodisengrunation detection would come in handy, and the ability to co-formulate with Jar Labs new trijacular sandbox device could be a very important step to improving the underpinnings of WinUAE.

Ah, just don't forget to purge your jefferies tubes before installing the latest upgrade for javascript

Failure to do so will not allow Mr. Fusion to generate the full 1.21Gigawatts of power needed for reverse deplenerization

Now then, back on Topic shall we....

@AmigaBoingBall, I do think that Toni has looked at multi-threading in the past and if I'm not mistaken he says that would not be feasible to do with this kind of emulation.

As for supporting more then 4GB, remember this is emulating a 16-bit OS, few people have ever tried to configure more then say 32MB as most apps just don't need that kind of memory allocation, some could probably use more like Video Editing apps for instance, but even then allocating 128MB is probably more then enough.

Also, you do mean OpenGL Graphics Support correct ?? I've not heard the term OpenCL before.

Nah, it's a framework for general purpose use of GPUs.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenCL

Not that I see what exactly "OpenCL" support means in the context of WinUAE.

I think you are the first one that can see a hint that something AmigaBoingBall has written could have anything to do with WinUAE Please enlighten us

I would also suggest support for OpenAL, OpenMP, OpenSG, and OpenCV.

How about built in support for the iSpy network?

It activates the front facing camera on your computer whenever you are viewing AVI files and posts the live feed to a website. The type Fred visits.

From Wikipedia: "OpenCL is analogous to the open industry standards OpenGL and OpenAL, for 3D graphics and computer audio, respectively. OpenCL extends the power of the GPU beyond graphics (GPGPU)"

"General-purpose computing on graphics processing units (GPGPU, also referred to as GPGP and to a lesser extent GP²) is the technique of using a GPU, which typically handles computation only for computer graphics, to perform computation in applications traditionally handled by the CPU"

So that would be like extra CPU horsepower for general-purpose emulation? not a bad idea in theory, GPU's are getting amazingly faster by the minute, but I remain skeptic about the efficiency of OpenCL.

Lovely idea for something that can't even easily be parallelized on several CPUs.

Let's not forget the OpenMind standard just to grasp all that lingo.

I am not sure if this was serious or not..

threading in WinUAE
Already replied multiple times. Some parts of emulation can be made multithreaded but it isn't easy and basically you need to implement 2 code paths, one for single-core cpu and other for multi-core cpu. (multithreading in single-core cpu can get very inefficient..)

OpenCL Support
Why and where?

beyond the 4GB memory limit
Amiga has only 32-bit address space, can't be done. "Why?"

WHY^10? I thought WinUAE is Amiga _emulator_ not something that has nothing to do with Amiga.. (hardware or software)

The guy is new and wrote some mistaken ideas. Either that, or he's like those veterans you see in forums elsewhere posting whatever is most annoying because they want attention. A joke or bait to see if someone else answers something revealing lack of mindpower, like the first post in this thread.

He's taken a beating over it, so... but unless he checks back in from real life to clarify we won't know if there was an idea there.
