Hi
I have a Blizzard 1230 IV accelerator card and i was wondering if it is possible to take out the 030 and pop in a 060?

What do you want it for?

I don't recommend you pay anything for an 060

You can upgrade some Apollo and Blizzard 040 boards but NOT an 030 board.

Again I dont recommend paying anything for an 060.

There is just no need for one in an A1200 desktop unless you *must* try some later demos.

030 should do you for game etc. Its the best for compatibility (in terms of 030,040,060).

040 max for some other stuff.

060 is good but way over priced and not a very useful jump from 040>060 compared to 030>040

Why do you not recommend getting an 060?

I think because the gain from an 040 > 060 is not worth the cost as you will see very little use of it.

what the hell are you all talking about????!????
060 rocks, and makes EVERYTHING on the amiga going faster damn it!
and there is a GOOD perfomance jump from 040->060 (tested with 2 MK2 , one 040/40 and the other 060/60)
a 060 will make your amiga use more enjoyable nowdays (because we are spoiled from cpu's of several ghz I guess) and playing games with whdload will take care of any probs....
it all comes down on the amount of money you want to spend on the amiga, and what YOU expect from it... if u just wanna play whd games, just get a 030... if u are like me and wanna play games but still want to have a nice and speedy OS, you can end up with a 4000+csppc+picassoIV+several other stuf...
money to burn is the real question........

Depends what you want to use it for.

030 will play 99% of WHDLoad games fine.

My 040 was fine for internet, WHDLoad, mp3 playing, IRC

I dont think its worth the extra £100

IMO a PPC is the ultimate waste of money

This 060 debate depends on whether you intend your Amiga to be used as a modern usable computer, or as a classic homage to the way things were.

Both are valid goals, but the former needs $$$Expensive$$$ rare and fragile hardware.

There are people who want a cpu upgrade for WHDLOAD and there are people who will buy any CPU upgrade that costs a bunch and has little use just for bragging about it.

Keropi if the csppc works for you, that is cool. Just don't expect 99% of Amiga users who are just casual users with newer PCs or Macs to blow hundreds of dollars on a PPC (and all the other junk you need to make the most of it) they will never use.

Why do these threads always seem to get heated??? Surely the joy of Amiga nostalgia is the variety of approaches. Cant everyone be allowed to do what they want?

I don't expect anyone liking or carring about my csppc, but it is ridiculus that someone asks about a 060 and suddenly ppl tell him it is bogus. well it is not, and obviously the creator of the thread needs more juice for his amiga!

My reply was the 2 extremes of upgrades going from doing the job to being expensive white elephants. This happens with computers, cars, stereo, houses, etc.

We have a 22 year old with 5 posts here who doesn't even know that an 030 socket will not fit an 040 chip let alone an 060. Nobody is too interested in what he is going to use the machine for, or if he has plenty of cash but people are mentioning 060's to him let alone PPC. Do we realy want somebody to blow a ton of cash and then find out its either overkill or doesn't do what he thaught it would? Is that how we expect the Amiga comunity to grow?

apparenlty you did not get the sarcasm on the csppc. re-read post #11.
so, all we got to do, is to advise him to forget the amiga, store it and use winuae. cheap and fast.
