Arghhhh! Powermonger
Hello all,
Any of you fine people have a config for Powermonger? I've tried everything I can think of but I just can't get it to run. Running latest version of WinUAE (not the private beta). Basically, the game will load up, intro comes on and I click to get past the intro. Then I get an arrow (the Powermonger arrow) followed by what looks like a green shrub waving about, then another arrow and it freezes (Powermonger that is, UAE is still active). I've tried the basic configs, 1.3Kick, 6800CPU, 512RAM, no other memory, full ECS and full emulation on sound and every permutation of this config but I just can't get it past that damn arrow. Even downloaded the ADF from another source but still the same problem. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. //admin: please don't use direct signature in your post, configure your UcerCP instead. |

Welcom in this forum
You must use Winfellow because PowerMonger don't work with WinUAE. With winfellow PowerMonger work fine, use a Amiga 500 config with 1 Mb of ram |

Thanks a lot Maverick, I did quickly give it a try in WinFellow but it wouldn't work there either, although I didn't try with a different config. I'll give it a go as an A500 with the 1.3Rom and see what happens
Thanks again! Regards, //admin: please don't use direct signature in your post, configure your UcerCP instead. |

Here is the config file for powermonger and winfellow.
I have just played with now (not long because i have others to do) and it work fine. IMPORTANT ! You MUST change the path in the winfellow for roms and the powermonger adf because you certainly use another drive or path/directory. Have Fun and Welcom to you again UKMars |

I'm surprised to see this game not working in the latest release of WinUAE, it just hangs shortly after the intro on track 57.
It does however work fine with WinUAE 0.8.14 R3, a shame because the new save state feature would have come in handy for such a difficult game. Included in the following zip you will find, the SkidRow crack of Powermonger, WinUAE 0.8.14 R3 and working configs. Powermonger.zip |

Well, I've been searching for a good Amiga board for a while and it looks like I found it!
A big thankyou to both of you for helping me out! Got it working in WINFellow...shame there's no save state though And ok admin, I've added the sig to my profile |

A better idea would be to use the WHDLoad installs for Powermonger and WW1. I think they work fine in emulators because they remove the source of the problem - the disk loading routine.
I've got originals of them, so I've put them in The Zone. |

This problem isn't caused by disk loading routine. It freezes because PowerMonger's level 6 interrupt handler never clears CIA's interrupt request register. I guess there is something wrong with UAE's CIA interrupt handling or something. No fix yet available.

So Toni, why does it work in WinUAE 0.8.14 R3, if it's the CIA handling?
I have the game installed with WHLoad, from an original (original) copy, and it works from 0.8.14 R3, but not the latest releases. With 0.8.17 (any release) It freezes right after the title screen is cleared, with a "stuck" mouse pointer. FWIW, I also have the WWI edition of Powermonger installed with WHLoad (original original), and it does exactly the same thing. |

Powermonger is bugged. I remember on the Amiga, if you let the intro sequence run until it finished, the game would not not load, it would have the same freezing problem that you mention.
Have you tried clicking out the intro as soon as it appears? Failing that, a simple bypass for the intro should be no problem. |
