WinAMP (re:AMP) returns to 64-bit Mac OS
It's called re:AMP and it is a WinAMP classic clone written in Swift. It supports streaming, skins, playlists, and it is a 64-bit app. It supports all your favorite music formats and was just updated to include OPUS, Musepack, and WavPac.
It does not support CDs or Video at this time and while there are no "milkdrop" visualizations, it does recreate the famous "fire" style with thin bands. If you were a WinAMP fan on the Mac, you know how bad it sucked that we lost the ability to run WinAMP in Winebottler because it was 32-bit. I've been putting it through its paces and I am extremely impressed. I was able to pull my radio playlists from AmigaAMP into it (it took a little editing to make them compliant, but not much). The Icon looks pretty damned cool, too! https://re-amp.ru/ Last edited by Weaselrama; 16 October 2020 at 20:48. Reason: add info |

re:AMP does .flac as well. It sounds awesome. It has a functional equalizer but I use my own. It does everything a music player should do with a wide-variety of formats. Sure, it's missing a few nice-to-have features like the Music Library and cover art but if this team keeps progressing as they have, no doubt we'll have something that resembles the v5.x of WinAMP in no time. Otherwise, building a playlist isn't that hard. I maintain two: One for streams and the other picked from my music library.
The .milkdrop visualizations - those were cool every once in a while but I don't even use the one in iTunes (now called Music). WinAMP is classic. I don't use skins because I always thought its base skin really couldn't be improved upon. Losing WinAMP in Winebottler sucked. Now it's back and I couldn't be happier. |

You're right. What about MediaMonkey then (not free, but everyone is welcome to use the free version for starters) ?

Small YT presentation of basic MediaMonkey features :
[ Show youtube player ] To say MM is feature packed would be an understatement. Also, the video doesn't illustrate this point, but a mini mode is available, and its interface is skinnable. Additionally, the free version has no nag screen presumably. |

i have run: media monkey and xmplay and aimp (all on win10). i dislike them all.
there is absolute NO winamp alternative. - xmplay is a small player, that´s nice. - MM & aimp is to much software for just playing audio files. i mean when you need this feature´s, you will be fine with them. i hope there will be a new update for the one and only winamp. |
