Risky woods Sound garbage

hi,first of all,thanks to all amiga comunity and uae developers

i'll try to explain the problem :

when you're playing the game,many sfx sound without sense,making the sound terrible.

i dunno if it's an emulation problem,or an issue due my amiga configuration

i've tried also the basic uae config,but the problem still there.

here's my config :

winuae 2.2.0
amiga 500 mode - full ECS - cycle exact and chipset extra (500)
Kickstart v1.3 rev 34.5
2 mb ram + 1 fast and 1 slow

hope someone can test it,and can give me an answer about it.

greetings

First test: enable on screen leds, check CPU% and SND%. CPU% must stay below 100%, SND% must stay between -20% to 20% or so.

CPU% > 100%: either your PC CPU is not powerful enough or configuration is bad (check sound panel, make sure buffer size is at least 3 or 4, most systems don't have stable sound if buffer is smaller)

CP% less than 100% but SND% is wildly jumping: something is wrong, possible power saving issue or driver issues.

it's not a performance problem,the sound are very buggy,if yuo have tested,and dont'have hear the issue,could you post your winuae config?

thanks

It can be any kind of problem. Sound is ALWAYS the first thing that goes bad if full frame rate can't be kept for some reason.

I never attach any configurations, sorry. It is always quickstart A500 configuration, sound buffer set to some sane value.

I can't give any suggestions without CPU% and SND% values + winuaebootlog.txt.

EDIT: does title music work correctly?

winuae 2.2.0 => Good
amiga 500 mode - full ECS - cycle exact and chipset extra (500) => good
Kickstart v1.3 rev 34.5 => good
2 mb ram + 1 fast and 1 slow => WRONG, A500 is only 512kb chipmem + 512 slowmem.
You can't have 2mb of chipram.....

hope someone can test it,and can give me an answer about it.

greetings

i know,but it didn't work also with a standard amiga500 config

music have no problem,the sfx have some sound overflow..

i think it's better to register a sample wich explain better the issue

Go to 'Miscellaneous' and enable 'Native On-screen LEDs'. When the sound garbage occurs take a screenshot with 'End + PrtScr'. Post that and the 'winuaebootlog.txt' from your WinUAE folder. Use the A500 quickstart for that.

CPU% and SND% seem to be fine.

XP and older AMD dual core CPU? Try this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/895980, you can also try disabling power saving options in bios temporarily.(Bad power saving/QPF counter bugs will cause random timing problems in WinUAE because emulation uses CPU time in bursts, for example 10ms of 100% CPU usage, next 10ms is fully idle and so on..)

EDIT: is it only Risky Woods? Try 2-3 other randomly chosen games. Perhaps the image is simply broken (it isn't anything rare)

the issue is present only on risky woods,i've tried many,many games,but only this have this audio problem, with a older version of winuae i'm resolving this turining off the "cycle exact" option when the level start,but with this version did'nt work

disks image semms correct,with winfellow there's no sfx problem

This changes everything (you really should have mentioned this in first post..)

Try latest winuae beta, it has audio cycle-exact mode updates.

so,i tried the lastest beta,and the solution i've found many version ago reworked :

i must start the emu with the cycle exact mode enabled,when it has loaded the first level,i must re-switch the cpu speed to "fasted possible,but mantain chipset timing".

with this mode,the game works correctly

i cannot start direcly without the "cycle exact" mode, because the game can't find the second disk in the drive

so,seems a bug of the cpu timing (on cycle exact mode),hope have helped this marvelous emulator to become a "real" amiga machine ^^

thanks to everyone

It worked for me when I tested it. Tested with 1 drive and 2 drives.

have you played a bit? because the sound sfx overflow pops up when you trigger only another sfx(i.e. jumping,trowing a knife,hit by an enemy etc..) it didnt't comes up always,but really often (i.e on 10 jump,5 times pops up)

I played it now for few minutes, sound effects seemed to work as expected, no glitches or anything weird. (using A500 quickstart most compatible setting + 2 drives)

Of course. Quickstart A500 with most compatible (=cycle-exact) is the only acceptable A500 configuration when reporting compatibility problems, any other = you are on your own.
