SimpleMail
Afternoon all,
Does anyone have a "Complete Idiots Guide To Installing Simplemail"? Seeing as I haven't gotten as far as hardware yet (waiting on payday before I send the 1200 off for capacitor replacement), I'm swatting up via FS-UAE to get used to OS 3.9, one of the things I'd like to be able to do on the 1200 is check my mail. I've been trying to install SimpleMail and seem to be having a stupid. I downloaded all the chunks it requires (MUI, BetterString, NLIST, TextEditor) in their latest versions, installed MUI into the root of the drive, copied the other bits into the /libs/mui/ directory and then launched SimpleMail, only to be told that it "could not create mui custom classes" or something along those lines. Not sure what that even means. Anyone able to tell me what dumb I've done? Sui |

which MUI version do you use?
I did test simplemail 0.44 with MUI 5. this does work. you may start sys:mui/mui tool and look for those extra classes, if they get listed in the mui config main window. Last edited by emufan; 02 February 2018 at 18:17. |

These should be the required MUI libraries:
BetterString.mcc NListtree.mcc NList.mcc NListview.mcc TextEditor.mcc TheBarVirt.mcc TheButton.mcc Last edited by AMIGASYSTEM; 02 February 2018 at 19:05. |

some time ago, I made an archive with those classes/libs
I was using with SimpleMail: Code:
BetterString.mcc BetterString.mcp HotkeyString.mcc NBalance.mcc NBitmap.mcc NFloattext.mcc NList.mcc NListtree.mcc NListtree.mcp NListview.mcc NListviews.mcp Popplaceholder.mcc TextEditor.mcc TextEditor.mcp they have to be in sys:MUI/libs/mui folder. not sys:libs/mui/ at least this is the location now for my MUI5 installation. #2) these libs are part of MUI-5.0-2017R4-os3-contrib.lha only missing Popplaceholder.mcc which is part of MUI-5.0-2017R4-os3.lha Last edited by emufan; 02 February 2018 at 19:50. |

ah, ok. I had them on different locations once, so I thought my install was wrong somehow,
since I had a problem with some mui tool. so i put them all in one place. cannot remember if it did fix the problem at all |

Many thanks for the help so far guys, really appreciate it.
I've gone ahead & downloaded the newer MUI (was using an older version) plus the contrib, but I can't extract them. Unarc burps up a sea of "Failed to open file" errors. This isn't the first time I've seen this, at first I figured maybe I had a corrupt archive but it's getting a bit too frequent now to be the case. Sui ::EDIT:: Extracted the archives using the Amiga LhA package. Still the same problem though, made sure everything is in the right place (MUI/Libs/mui), I'm missing something obvious here I just know it. ::EDIT EDIT:: Got it to load, don't know what I did differently. Now it just crashes the entire system when I try to use it and the resolution goes all squinky when I go to add an account. This drawing board is seeing a lot of action, keep going back to it & all that. Last edited by Sui_Generis; 03 February 2018 at 10:38. |

I fear you need to remove the new MUI version completely. For your A1200 OS3.9 system go for http://aminet.net/package/util/libs/mui38usr

for the MUI part, some assigns and such. you may delete that section or set a ";" infront of each related line, to deactivate the them. look here for locations the MUI installation is using. next you may just rename SYS:MUI folder, maybe to SYS:MUI-OFF if there were more places with MUI stuff in the user-startup, do the same with those. this way you may now again install MUI38 from aminet. if the new mui installation does work, you may remove those ...-OFF folder. |

Good evening everyone.
I have excellent news! Thanks to following the advice you've given, I have a working copy of SimpleMail! I can't do much with it yet thanks to the A1200 being locked inside FS-UAE (no clue how to get networking in there), but it works! I used a backup copy of the HDD folder I've been using pre my fiddling about and went with MUI 3.8. I didn't realise that running MUI actually showed you the extensions it was loading (thank you emufan), going through them I got as far as Text Editor and MUI told me it couldn't load an item from BetterString. Turned out I had been using completely the wrong thing all along, went back to AmiNET & downloaded the right one (with a handy-dandy installer I might add!) and it fired straight up. Also installed AmiSSL. I have now grouped all the required files together so installation on the real A1200 should be a breeze. Thank you all for all the help. Sui |

good news
for networking in fs-uae - in launcher , look in expansion tab: enabling [x] UAe BsdSocket library should do the trick. just this one, not network card. at least I think to. about amissl, you are using latest amissl4? there is some ENV setting, you have to set, basicaly it's about this: Code:
makedir env:amissl setenv amissl/ssl_client_version tls1 copy env:amissl envarc:amissl |

Well, looks like my excitement was premature, darn it!
Finally got around to looking into seeing if it would work with the UAE socket library enabled after my recent success with AmiMUD. Went though adding all my account details, clicked the added account on the left hand pane, get the connecting message at the bottom...and system freeze. ::EDIT:: Using AmiSSL 4.1 and it's auto installer. ::EDIT EDIT:: I just tried iBrowse for the first time, when attempting to use an HTTPS connection, it tells me AmiSSL isn't installed. Suggestions of what I got wrong this time? :-/ Sui Last edited by Sui_Generis; 16 March 2018 at 13:23. |
