Hi Everyone. Good God! I'm surprised that anyone remembers Flag. I have a few screens from it if anyone would like any (thanks to Mathias in Germany - you here Mate?.
What's the Amiga development scene like nowadays? I'd really enjoy doing another game if anyone is interested... Ian |

If you mean commercial and for the amiga, forget it.
For amiga style 2d work go for GBA and NDS, for 3d there are plenty of oportunities if you are located in the UK. |

*Hides from axe-wielding Akira!* @Ian Harling. Welcome to EAB! Can you enlighten us any further on what happened with the project? Did the game design change at all between the move from Gremlin/Mindscape? |

Hi. Brisbane huh? My family live out there (Welly Point and Kangaroo Point) - my wife and I are hoping to emigrate there ASAP. Best place in the world Anyway; Flag was dropped by Gremlin simply because they didn't understand it - and made no attempt to understand it once they realised that it wasn't an out and out shooter. We didn't go to Mindscape from there, but to Millennium, who immediately tried to get us to finish the game in 3 months and tried to take us to court for the rights to it when we said that was impossible. The problem with it was that it was too original - although nowadays there are literally tens of games using the same ideas. By the time we'd been through all the nonsense with Gremlin and Millennium the software industry was changing fast, and only those with very large teams of staff and Graphics Workstations could pull the contracts in. I kept going for maybe another 25 games or so, but it was all a bit lame compared to the early days when everybody had a chance of making it big from their back-bedrooms. Ian |

@Ian
Hey Ian, how are you doing? Wanted to wish you a merry christmass anyway, hehe! You see, people still care about the things you`ve done in the past! Keep those files from 'Flag' under your pillow, please, you`ll never know... Cheers, Matthias! |

Merry Xmas Uno!
Yooooo Mate - I knew you'd be lurking here somewhere. Merry Xmas to you too
UNO has helped me immeasurably over the last few months, getting the old Flag graphics onto disc, and creating, single-handedly, the Lost Patrol site. A good all round bloke Ian |

Yeah, thanks mate! You must not forget that starting up my Amiga again and working on the site has been a lot of fun for me!
Let`s hope that we start this 'Flag'-threat on some GBA/mobilephone sites one day! You know I won`t stop bothering you until that game is on the shelf ;-) Last edited by uno; 22 December 2004 at 12:35. |

I have to wonder you know. Are there sufficient coders and artists here to do a game for a phone company? I have game designs and all kinds of things already drawn. Is there any potential for setting up a development company with all this talent?
Pure matter of interest, completely off-topic, but what would the members here realy want to be doing if they could do anything? |

Is there any way that I can post them to the board so that anyone who wants them can just download them? No problem about sending them out to anyone if that's not a possibility though. Can you send me a mail with your email adddress in it and I'll send some off? I've just remembered that I havea handful of animations too in DPaint2 ANM format, are they any use?

No code exists as far as I'm aware. Are there still any game engines and screen editors for the Amiga knocking about?
Some of Flag was created using Snasm - does anyone try to use it nowadays for Amiga development? |

SnAsm systems were quite expensive in their day, probably they are just gathering dust somehwere these days, especially since you can't really develop anything for the more "advanced' amiga setups that are in use these days on them due to lack of support.
It was even hard to get an updated downloader module for a500+ in its day, since the a500 one failed remarkably. Besides it is not easy to find an actual pc nowadays that works with that cross-development software/hardware either |
