Passive RGB to VGA?
Hello,
I found this: http://amigaga.chez-alice.fr/classic...o/adaptvga.htm It's in french but basically it says to connect directly the DB23 to a DB15 port without any hardware. Don't know how it can work without the HSYNC beeing 31,25KHz. Is there a mode and/or amiga model compatible with that? |

it will work with multisync monitors that are capable to sync from 15.625kHz.

OK, so it's a very restrictive solution

Also works with AGA Amiga's in DoubleScan 31KHz modes (i.e. workbench only, not games)
It is a standard part known as a Sync Dongle http://www.amiga-hardware.com/showha...D=733%22%3ERGB |

Didn't the Commodore one have a chip (filter) inside? I thought it had something, was more than just a straight adaptor

Yep, I've just taken my Commodore 390682-01 RGB to VGA adapter apart, and there's a 74HCT08 chip (Quad 2-input positive-AND gates) inside. It doesn't look like a filter circuit, though.

Buffered video dongle : 390682-01
Sync generating video dongle : 390682-03 Unsure what the difference is but I've only ever had the -01 part which is little more than straight through. I wonder if the circuit is for generating SOG? The -03 part is described as "being compatible with the video toaster" and is apparently a bit more complicated, Edit : Hmmm this seems to have a better description on how it works http://amiga.resource.cx/exp/syncstrainer Last edited by alexh; 28 September 2010 at 08:35. |

Hi,
See http://wonkity.com/~wblock/a4000hard/connvga.html Quote "VGA monitors can be connected to the A4000; however, since the special circuitry in the Amiga video output can mistakenly identify a monitor as a genlock and thus cause problems, a special cable or adapter is the best way to hook them up. All this cable really does is buffer the horizontal and vertical sync signals by double-inverting them through a TTL gate. Commodore's DB23-to-HDD15 adapter (supplied with most A4000s) used a 74HCT08 for this," Regards, Michael aka rockape |

If this one from amigakit is anything like the one I have then its just a straight through connection
http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/...roducts_id=183 Thats some good info rockape, thought it was just a couple of not gates in my other connector ![]() |
