Pre-Release Psygnosis Demo Disks

This topic was in Amiga scene, but im moving it here as I feel its more relevant.

Currently on a mission to rescue some disks from near death with the help of pr0wler at the moment.
So far, due to the bad sectors/headers etc, I have only been able to make custom ADFs using TSGui, as apposed to working ADFs.

First up we have an old pre-release demo of Lemmings. I've put a video of it up on YouTube. Features some new stuff like a different title screen, (what I believe to be) varied music (level 5 has new music if im not mistaken, although not in the video) and new level ordering.

Ill take a photo of the disk later.

Secondly, the next successful dump is 'Preview the Beast'. A rolling demo preview of Shadow Of The Beast, interupted with small blurbs about the upcoming game.

Next up:

'Leander' Demo once I can salvage a bit more of the disk (Only half of the game is there currently refuses to get past the title screen/rolling demo bit)
'Awesome' Rolling Demo (like the Beast one), currently working will be video'd soon.
'Stryx', boots up to the loading screen, but thats all (for now)
'Liberation' currently not working.
'Agony' same again, not working (yet).

Ill most likely send the remaining games over to the god of recovery, pr0wler later on.
Until then, enjoy the videos and look forward to the next few.

PS: Is there bb Code to embed videos into a post?

I dumped this disk and SOTBII disk in WWARP format about 10 years ago. Psygore created WHDload installs for them. Unfortunately my SOTBIII demo disc had gone bad. There is a crack of it on aminet but does not play as I remember. If anyone finds a copy pm me.

I also dumped these Psygnosis demo disks at the same time : Leander, Awesome, Agony, Ork, the Killing Gameshow and possibly more. I could have sworn they were also turned into WHDload installs but I cannot find them...

Great news! Were many of the others Rolling demos with the small snippets of text on them?

Also, in regards to the Leander demo. Is it playable?
My guess from the half/bad dump I have is that it is meant to be. I can get to the title screen, but not one single button press allows me to advance. The only other part I see is a rolling demo if I leave it for a few minutes (which it then freezes up on eventually).

I think they all were. Maybe not Leander & Agony. But I don't really remember. I'll hunt them down.

I think I also had a Blood Money demo too.

They were not Pre-Release demos. Non of the disks include visuals or audio not in the final game.

I got all my disks at the Psygnosis stand at World of Commodore '92.

I believe that some (all?) the disks were copy protected and so could not be converted into ADFs. But some had build in disk duplicators.

Wicked! If you find out about Leander, do tell

Lemmings has a different title screen. And you could argue they were pre-release as they were meant for reviewers/demo'ing in the shops prior to the sales

Hmmm... Ok. I got mine at a show after the games were already on sale. (Don't you think rolling demo's would be pretty useless to any reviewer?)

The disk images are no longer on my Amiga hard drive. I'll have to take a look and see if I kept the physical disks. I think they are in my SOTB big box.

Well, lets call them previewers (or other developers) in this case, would make more sense.
And to add more weight to the story, mine came directly from Stewart Gilray of 21st Century.

Thank you. In this preview version of Shadow of the Beast collected flasks to the right are different (larger) and 00 numbers should be on the left, not centre.

The version on aminet has missing files. If you could make an image of your beast3 version, maybe I can recover some files.

Ah, I knew I sent you more than just SOTB 1 & 2. Thank you again for taking the time to make these installs.

No problem.
I've just made a slave for Ork demo (ipf version).
It would be nice if you have the images of Leander and KGS demo too.

Hi,
I have this Aquaventura preview disk. The format is non standard.
I've managed to make disk images with MFMWarp and Wwarp. If someone is interested by getting them, just tell me where to upload them.

Its great that this has finally surfaced. I tried the ADF in WinUAE on a 1mb A500 setting and it seems to slowdown and have graphic corruption. I'm not sure if its the original disk that was damaged or if its WinUAE that doesn't like the file.
