When I encountered the thread, two weeks had passed since your remark that you want to have verified that "all is good" before someone uploads it to Aminet. I figured the chances that somebody would report any problems were pretty slim by now.

I could have put it on my todo list, but with the size of said list and my limited spare time, that basically means it'll never happen. I had a few minutes to spare, so I uploaded the disks.

someone can't / won't wait so he's the first to put it up.
The readmes clearly state where we got the disk images.

So don't be shocked if you find something in there is broken.
The readmes of the disks marked "bad" warn about potential problems. I don't know how many people downloaded the files from the XCopy shrine, but with up to a hundred downloads per disk from Aminet, chances that somebody actually complains about problems he encounters increase a lot, IMHO.

Stay tuned for more releases, more versions, a never before released version of X-Copy (due later this year hint hint), and even the SOURCE (by Richard Aplin) for Cyclone. Yay, I am really excited about this.
So what do I do about further uploads? Don't want to step on anyone's toes here. I can hold back on crossuploading further releases (but as I said, that basically means i'll forget about it) if the XCopy shrine webmaster wants to promote his site first.

Thanks for your (as in "both of you") efforts, btw.

Don't worry about it too much, the relevant files on all disks work. Only the X-Copy Pro 3.1 disk actually had bad files:

l:Aux-Handler, l:Shell-Seg, devs:Mountlist, devs:printer.device

These can probably be taken from any 1.3 wb disk, but the good bits are all there anyway, so why bother.

Let's coordinate the next batch a little better. I'll send you a pm once it's time. :-)

Awesome idea. Or let's mail. Mine is cb AT softpres DOTHERE org - so please get in touch.

In the end this initiative is about actually making the heritage available, for free, for everyone, to share and examine. I really appreciate anyone helping, let's just make sure we don't have bad images. Bad images are always problematic from a preservation point of view. If we can fix things, we should fix them.

Really nice. Good that another piece of Amiga Software is preserved so well.

But most of it is German like the manuals.
Are there still English masterdisks around?

If you don't mind i told my fellow dutch amiga members about this topic

X-Copy was a German product made in Germany, so naturally there are more German versions around than English ones.

The German users got more "unfinished" or "beta" versions, whereas the versions for release outside of Germany were usually better tested.

But we have found many English disks and the next batch should come up around December...

I found X-Copy Maraude It Professional v1.2 (13/09/88 | 01/10/88) amongst my disks.

I decided to dump it considering it is not in TOSEC (also renamed it accordingly). I noticed no versions prior to version 2.x are in TOSEC or on the XCopy Shrine.

This 1.2 version appears to only work with Chip RAM & Fast RAM allocated (Slow RAM intermittently works?).

256/512k/1MB Chip RAM Allocated (Memory Map: 000000->0FFFFF) - XCopy appears to be in a monochrome appearance (Grayscale + 4 colours; Cyan, Green, Light Purple & Red) - Left Screenshot (Weird the date is different; 13/09/88)

2 MB Chip RAM Allocated (Memory Map: 1FFFFF) - XCopy appears in full colour - Right Screenshot (Weird the date is different; 01/10/88).

Note: Slow RAM must not be allocated otherwise it crashes (seems to be intermittent - when it does work it uses Grayscale+4 colours in 512k slow & full colour with 1MB slow)

This version possibly contains a memory check/map bug (weird since it is intermittent)?

The issues experienced could be emulation related. As I haven't tested this on real A500 hardware in years.

You can find the ADF image in the zone (ZIP Archived).

Hi Jope,

Do you know if you encountered similar issues with the master disk?

I do wonder if the version I have is the same or different. Especially the 2 separate dates encountered.

I have found at least three separate versions of 1.x on different utility disks, but I never noticed that. I'll have to try them out with different memory configurations. :-)

I just tried this with the master disk and had the same results. 512c+512f = full colour and newer date, 512c+0f = killsysed monochrome version with the previous date. :-)

Then I dug into my pile of loose copies and found:
- 1.2 28/08/88 - 1.2 30/08/88
- 1.2 13/09/88 - 1.3 01/02/89

Seems they didn't remember to change the killsys graphics for every build.

Hi Jope,

There is a broken link on the Master disks page.

The link to X-Copy Pro May '92 GER (xcopy_1992-05_master_optimized_full.zip) has a trailing quotation mark.

Was the 2.0 one from your own original disk?

It should be on the last master disk, if I recall correctly. I might add something about X-Copy TNG later, but at the moment I'm going to concentrate on the classic X-Copy.
