Shadow of the Beast freezes on end

Hi,
I'm trying to complete Beast, but everytime I finish the last boss the game freezes.
I tested the ROM in both WinFellow and WinUAE - same result.
The version I'm using (from emuparadise) was patched by The Band and granted I am using the "Unlimited energy" cheat, which might be causing this.

I have tried to tinker with various settings, but nothing really helped.

Any clue what might be causing this?

Might be worth trying with an un-cracked IPF image instead?

Not all cracked versions of games work perfectly in my limited experience.

The original had a unlimited lives cheat built in if that helps.

I know I'm gonna be that guy, but please don't refer to floppy disk images as "ROMs" - they're not. ROM has a specific use case.

Many thanks.

faulty ADF. I had this version a very long long time ago, (was 12 yrs old), and i finished it, as it had the infinite lives trainer.

I have to agree with dlfrsilver; this set is 100% completable:

... Shadow of the Beast (1989)(Psygnosis)(Disk 1 of 2)[cr Band][t +2 Band].adf [CRC: F0AE521C]
... Shadow of the Beast (1989)(Psygnosis)(Disk 2 of 2)[cr Band][t +2 Band].adf [CRC: 499E7F01]

@iaval; can you zip up the .ADFs you're using and then check the CRCs?

My disk images are the same CRC. Very strange.

Typo on my part, sorry. I know they're not.

Indeed.

So I guess the next question is what configuration are you using?

Quickstart OCS, Cycle-exact ticked, KS 1.3 ROM etc...

...for my own sanity, thought I'd test this tonight in WinUAE v4.0.1.

Unfortunately you are correct, instead of loading the final image, the game stops here after killing the giant:

I'm positive this set has been verified on a real Amiga; it's also the set that GameBase Amiga uses

Anyway, guess it's time to test with the .IPFs... but not tonight.

Well, looks like I won't be testing the .IPFs then as the "cheat" is bogus as per this thread: http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=43902

...I'm not good enough to complete the game without unlimited energy

Guess the only option left is to try the WHDLoad version, luckily it has an "unlimited energy trainer" i.e: <F1> toggle on / off.

Ok, here is a self booting / bare-bones .HDF of the WHDLoad version.

It should definitely be 100% but do please test iaval.

Just use a standard A1200 configuration

*** note *** no KS ROMs or .RTB files were used, included or harmed in this process so it's safe to upload to EAB...

Forgot to mention, if any coder / cracker wants to see what's wrong with / fix the .ADF set:

... Shadow of the Beast (1989)(Psygnosis)(Disk 1 of 2)[cr Band][t +2 Band].adf [CRC: F0AE521C]
... Shadow of the Beast (1989)(Psygnosis)(Disk 2 of 2)[cr Band][t +2 Band].adf [CRC: 499E7F01]

Here's a save state starting from the last graveyard level...

@DamienD
Sorry for late reply, daily job prevents me from engaging in other activities.

Yep, that's exactly the problem I was getting. Strangely enough the lines that appear just below the center cloud might hint something.
In playthrough videos on YT, there's no such artifact.
And I had that occur only on WinUAE, not WinFellow.

I did notice that but forgot to mention it in my late night post; it's visable in my screenshot though...

The YT video I watched in order to help me finish the game would have probbaly been from the WHDLoad version as I don't remember seeing any disk change screens.

Thank you ross, I'll have to wait until I get home... can you possibly fix the .ADFs though?

Managed to quickly test this save state and indeed it works perfectly

...so can you fix the .ADFs when you have the chance my friend?

Sure

But downloading Band crack I've just noticed this alternative version:
"Shadow of the Beast (1989)(Psygnosis)(Disk 1 of 2)[cr Band][t +3 Band].zip" .

In intro is said "100% version".
Maybe is really a 100% version, we need a beta tester
Or there is a reason to prefer the other version?

I guess due to the fact that there is no Shadow of the Beast (1989)(Psygnosis)(Disk 2 of 2)[cr Band][t +3 Band].adf but I imagine it must work with the (Disk 2 of 2)[cr Band][t +2 Band] disk.

I've always used [cr Band][t +2 Band] as it was supposed to be the verified / working set.

Oh, the other thing I forgot to mention is that when in the graveyard section, this is loaded from Disk 2 so... not sure if a different Disk 1 will correct this to be honest...

This version is confirmed working.
Just tested it in WinUAE. Apart from performance issues, the game is 100% finish-able.
Thanks for the link
