Amiga 1200 , Workbench clock issue (wont save?)

Hi, I am back into Amigas after many many years and I have recently got an Amiga 1200, I was never really into using Workbench (just played games really) however I am puzzled on how I can make it save the time settings? When I power back on and enter Workbench the time will be reset to something like 1999 etc etc. Am I missing something? I do click save.

Nope. You're not missing something
Stock unexpanded A1200 doesn't have a battery backup clock in order to the Amiga to remember the clock settings. That's why after a power down it looses everything.
In order to have a clock that will retain it's settings you either need an Accelerator or Memory board with a clock+battery OR a clockport module with battery (althouth these are not so common nowadays).

What is also worth to mention that not all A1200 mobo's were equipped with clockort...
For example I have A1200 rev 1D4 with "fake" clockport (there is connector that actually looks like clockport, but it's not properly located on mobo).
Some A1200 mobo's does not have connector at all; even the "fake" clockport.

Some also have the full 44 pins. So both fake and proper clock port installed.

The clock port is in reality a chip mem expansion port, they were going to sell the A1200 with only 1MB chip RAM. Usually only the real time clock pins are populated, but sometimes more.

Look at your motherboard around the chip RAM chips.
