How was the Imagine (3d software) logo done?

I remember the awe when seeing the logo and wondering how that was even possible to model using the software. My guess is it wasn’t done with Imagine. Does anyone know? Did the project file ever surface online ?

real 3D letters carved with a hot wire out of styrofoam... covered by a thin blanket
some lights with low angle and than a photo taken from above

just guessing of course ;-)

Yeah... I guess this would be too many polygons for Amiga to handle.
It's either a real picture, like Gorf suggested, or,
...maybe they rendered letters, and basic cloth mesh, and some drawing artists, carefully painted all the wrinkles, and details.
