Since there are allready pages to "hack" this little thingy into a fully functional C64 with Keyboard, Disk Drive and so on ..... I allready seen one of these things build into an old PC Keyboard with attached Joysticks to the back

It cannot be compared to the real good old C64 but hey, it´s FUN !!!

Ok ok I've read the article and there is little more than what I originally thought, it looks hackable, almost meaning that C64 is in production again. I still think the initial idea is dumb but the item itself has potential. Can you give any links? Also does anyone know if this one has an original sid chip that you can remove for use with a catweasel?

Retrogahba and Parallax:
This is a nice toy, and thehack is very cool.
But....the description is ASS.
They make it look like without this toy, enjoying C 64 in the last 20 years has been non existent. obviously the imbecile that wrote the piece never heard of emulators on PC/Mac/Amiga.
Nor does he think people still use their beloved C 64s.

You know this has nothing to do with the C64 that the real enthusiasts use , it is ONLY a gimmicky toy after all , that is trying to cash in on retro nostalgia for those who " just have to have one "

Of course it ignores the applications that are still used that was allways too hard for most

and instead looks for the easy fun part of the machines past.

Well, I agree 100%!! This is NO FUN AT ALL, I would call it 'sacrilege', instead! There is really no point of having this thingym IMHO! Anyone can buy a C=64+1541 for peanuts, even find it for free! So why buy this one? Down with the crappy stuff! Down with lame-ulators, pseudo-alternative hardware etc! Why don't we all use the REAL things, people?

Actually this toy was for qvc and people watching qvc are not really into emulation you see, more like "Monster Exerciser Golden Muscle Turbo 2005", "Ninja Hyper-real Mega Blade 2004", "Lie in Your Deathbed while Losing Weight 2006" and other similar goodies - so this is pretty high quality stuff by their standards.

Basically it is C64 hw emulator probably very similar to C1, since it is designed by the same girl.
The games are cracks from tapes according to some posts.
So the drive prompt seems to be a fake, or used to boot some memory mapper short program thingie like NES mappers.
I don't know about the real compatibility of the device, anyone tried say Mayhem in Monsterland or anything that requires cycle-exact emulation...?

Someone went to the trouble of developing and marketing a C=64 in hardware and you are criticising it?! Our Amigas and C=64's and other such toys will not last forever. And while this toy is limited, it is much more satisfying than those Windows 95 remakes of classic Atari games I saw a few years back.

So embrace and hack (er, extend). Maybe more good, and hopefully better, stuff will come out in the future. I mean, just imagine a hackable Amiga 1200 inside of a joystick.

This toy was useless at first sight, but after seeing that jeri ellsworth has put all teh effort into making this as hackabel as helñl, itss a worthwile investment if you waish to expand on it. It really is cool, you can add a 1541 drive and use it liek a normal C64, mostly.

This thing is quite spot on and it should run most, if not all, things.

NO WAY. This is a genius Idea. The only other one of these joystick things that comes close is the megadrive one as it's also a hardware compatible job. The rest all suck ass with shite NES conversions.

The C=64 one is well worth it. Mines been sitting next to the telly in the kitchen since I got it (it's the only one that does NTSC

), I'm getting better and better at impossible mission!!! heheheh

If you can hack a cartridge port out of it (didn't check if this is possible) you can connect an IDE64 interface with a CF adapter. Presto

It's a neat little thing which has even more value if you are used to hacking your stuff. I wouldn't dare do something like that to mine, and the lack of keyboard makes it a bit difficult too. Have rather been thinking of investing in one of the newer phones which will run a good C64 emu, even found a nice printable keyboard cover to throw on it which'll slip over the keyboard of the phone to look somewhat like a C64 keyboard, complete with the graphic characters.

i won't be buying one, i have a sixtyfour, and a pc (for emulation)
