Wanted 50 pin scsi hard disk drive

Hi all, i have recently purchased a supradrive 500xp from DoogUK.
It is working fine however it only has a 52mb hard disk drive so i am looking to upgrade it a little.
I am not sure if it has any size limits (not posotive but i believe i read this may be limited based on the amab rom version which i believe is amab4 in mine) and if it does have a size limit could anyone present any info on upgrading the rom?
I am looking for anything 1gb to 4gb max.

Thanks

Mike

I would strongly suggest you forget about decrepit pieces of spinning metal and look at getting yourself a SCSI-IDE Bridge like the ACARD AEC-7720U, many EABers (and classic Mac owners) use this adapter with either IDE HDDs or compact flash adapters.

AMAB4 does not support large drives. I am not sure what the limit is because I didn't have smaller than 2G drives when I tested it. AMAB4 didn't see the drive at all, AMAB6 worked fine.

I also recommend SCSI-IDE adapter + Compact Flash memory card instead of old, possible unreliable due to age, noisy SCSI drive.

Sorry to bump an old thread but I have this drive and was wondering on scope of moving from the mechanical drive that it has to CF (which I have now accumulated in search of a PCMCIA friendly version).

I've seen this:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hot-SCSI-...YAAOSw0GNbKNru

Would that work? The ACARD AEC-7720U is too expensive and makes not sense to get this when I could simply get a Wicher or similar for the asking price.

That's just a 80/68 pin to 50 pin SCSI convertor. I used an adapter for many years with a 68 pin SCSI HD. Seller seems confused with the '50 pins IDE' thing.

Excuse my ignorance, but is this a scsi drive?! If this would work in the enclosure of the Amigas SupraDrive that would be great!

Haha my bad...

@Kin Hell - I would be interested! If this goes in to replace the existing HDD in my SupraDrive

Anyone used an external scsi adaptor on PC to create a disk for purposes of partition and copying over files e.g. WHDLoad via WinUAE mount of drive?

This is a standard 3.5" Hard Drive. If this form factor is defacto with the SupraDrive housing, it should just screw in.

PM me if you want to buy.

As others have said above, if you for some reason can use a large drive-though it sounds like you can't-is one of the SCA-80 to 50/68-pin drives. Many 300GB SCSI drives are very quiet after spinning up and the SCA adapters can be found in 50 or 68 pin or both, some have termination or not. And it's far cheaper than an IDE to SCSI adapter. But that's assuming you can actually use a large drive via some means.

4GB is supported I thought by Amiga and size above this may need some modifications?

I was under impression internal Amiga HDD for A600 is SCSI? If so can I not use converter to switch pins numbers down then use conventional cheap CF to IDE converter? Though as the name implies, this is IDE not SCSI?

The A600, A1200 & A4000 all have IDE. SCSI cannot be used without a SCSI card.
A CF to IDE converter will work fine on any of these machines.

The confusion probably comes with the name of the IDE device driver Commodore chose - scsi.device
