I'm revising my fav classic Amiga. Now it's the Amiga 3000+ with AGA. These are very rare but I heard someone is doing a ReAmiga build of these now. Is there anywhere online to purchase one of these sexy babies?

Agreed, it’s still my fav Amiga though. I believe these are being made now as ReAmigas. |

My favorite Amiga is the 500!
It's the model that introduced me to the wonderful world of Amiga back in 1988. |

It is difficult to choose one particular model,
each has its own why for a certain scope of use. As a collector I now own a few, Amiga 500, Amiga 500+, Amiga 600, Amiga 1200. I personally find the 1200 the most complete, the 600 ideal for using even old games with ease thanks to whdloads, and I love its aesthetics and compactness. Every once in a while, however, dusting off the 500/500+ for some floppy only games has its appeal. Having said that even the professional models have a certain appeal, the possibility of expansion and robustness are certainly a plus and among them Amiga 3000 and 4000 are on another level, but given today's poor availability and relative out-of-scale prices they will remain just a wet dream for me. |

"Favourite" is personal, can't really argue for/against any models selected by others.

How upgradable was an A1000? I think 1.3 ECS 512k Chip RAM was the limit, although I think hard drives and accelerators were possible? The A500 may not have been more powerful on launch, but after a few years it surely was?
I know the A1000 was the first one and it set the tone, and the case is pretty cool, but the sheer cost meant it was never going to be mainstream, and there was no real way of cutting the production costs while sticking to that type of shape. Without the A500 later, nobody would remember the Amiga. I guess the first three all have looks which suit their purpose - the A500 a 'home' system, the A1000 a 'creative' system and the A2000 a 'business' system. I'm pretty sure the A2000 surpassed the A1000's total 2-year sales within a year though (and the A500 probably took 3 months to do so?), hence the lack of another 'creative' looking Amiga (maybe the A3000, at least relative to the A2000) Last edited by Megalomaniac; 20 April 2024 at 15:56. |
